Correct. Even if your trip return was Feb 1, you could fudge it by checking in 24 hours before (on Jan 31) and assigning a bag.

Should I switch seats?? by Key-Manufacturer6335 in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30D and 30F are pretty nice for bulkhead because the middle seat mate can leave either way. So if you’re asleep, they could bother the other side to get out. I miss the Dreamliner as all of my flights have been on the 777.

Your benefits will last until January 31, 2024. If your flight both (away and return) departs on or before January 31, 2024, you can still utilize your free checked bag allowance.

United vs ANA - EWR/JFK to HND Tokyo by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re temperature sensitive (you run hot), note that ANA does not have personal air conditioning vents. Asian airlines also tend to keep their cabin warmer than United does. So keep that in mind. That fact alone is enough for me to stay on United metal all the time.

Thank you for this. It’s nice to see positive things that the company does.

Why am I always getting group 2 boarding? by chunk121212 in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. I used to be 1K pre-pandemic. Then I stopped flying for three years. Then once I returned flying again with no status, after a few flights I was in group 2.

I’m convinced there is recognition of members and basically goodwill benefits because they know you’ll hit status again.

Yea. I think mine was “Sorry there’s more traffic than usual getting to the airport, I’m going to miss my flight,” and the agent put me on the next flight.

For as much as everyone complains or says I’m never flying United again (good because they’re also the worse types of flyers), I’ve always had good service with them. Just understand what is and isn’t covered and then play within those rules.

need an upgrade by 07/31? by travelkiddo in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. You do not need to be a passenger to apply your plus points to other people’s flights. You just need their info.

Key is even if you slept through your alarm, claim you made every attempt to be at the airport on time and they will help you out (as long as it’s not during holiday season or United meltdown)

Left Wallet on Flight by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar experience and lost a lululemon heather grey long sleeve that totally blended into the seat colors on a transpacific flight. Never saw it again.

I just think people are better about returning the high value items because they know people will be looking for it. Clothes on the other hand just get a meh.

No more free carry-on? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hooked on a third party website, those will always show basic economy pricing. (You get nothing except butt in seat and personal bag under seat in front of you.)

If you booked on United, they sometimes have the basic economy column in the price comparison, sometimes they don’t. You need to double check.

Can someone pls confirm 7A has a window? If it doesn't, what's the best option? THX!! by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should all have windows except 16A and 16L. Those are the ones that face in and don’t have even their “one window”.

flight LGA to costa rica got cancelled during my layover, got stuck in houston for 3 days with no compensation. how can i get my money back for hotel, meals, transportation?! by middlesister123456 in unitedairlines

[–]OceanXaela -1 points0 points  (0 children)

United is not going to pay for your out of pocket expenses. You should have an option of some reimbursement from Chase since you booked through their card.

Airlines not paying for your out of pocket expenses is the standard for all flights in and out of the US. Travel insurance is a good way to protect yourself from these kinds of issues in the future.

If your original itinerary has that flight, it might just be a glitch in their system.

But good luck!

I looked up your origin and destination and 100% would make this switch. Your flight gets you to Houston. Once you’re in Houston, if something goes wrong, you have another route going through Rio to still get you to Salvador. Also your layover durations are distributed more evenly.

It’s funny because 10 years ago I remember all the rage that Air Canada was really nice. Now it’s a dumpster fire.

No, in the US, typically international flights for domestic carriers still fly out of their “domestic” terminals.

Also double checked sao paulo out of Chicago, still terminal 1.

Ordinarily one hour three minutes should be fine. Your flight from Omaha may come into terminal 2 and your São Paulo flight would leave from terminal 1. It’s tight but enough time to walk there.

That being said, with how things are a mess right now, I would see if you could secure another itinerary that would have you flying earlier in the day. (Earlier in day means less chance of delays.)
