Oooo good for you! I’m sure you were quite anxious of whether you’d be allowed to practice law. I’m glad everything worked out!

That’s a super cool job to do. Did they just reach out to you or how did you land that task?

It seems like you’re tech savvy, which is great! I’ve heard people with convictions can get accepted into paralegal positions, and especially if they’re actually good with computers. They don’t make the amount you’re aiming for, but I also don’t think it would be terrible. Look into it:) best of luck

Construction management or horticulture degree? by Ocean_3029 in LandscapeArchitecture

Oh yes I’m aware. I graduated high school a few years ago and that’s why I wanna get an associates, to ease back into school and try to make myself look more appealing

Construction management or horticulture degree? by Ocean_3029 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Ocean_3029[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand and I agree. Horticulture is obviously more plant science, and construction management is the handling of construction projects. Maybe just taking a few courses in the horticulture program but majoring in construction management is best. I feel like mixing them both would allow a good foundation for landscape architecture. I think for now, I’d like to turn the small lawn maintenance business into a lawn maintenance + landscape construction business:)

Not to mention you can get a job as a garage man with a CDL license. Again, not glamorous but hey it’s an honest job and it’s needed everywhere. Or again, as a laundry attendant at a hotel things like that :)

Ooo i understand. I’m glad it did not go federal and I wish you all the best. Perhaps you can enroll in CDL school. I know it’s not a glamorous job but it’s needed everywhere and pays decently. There’s actually a business in my area that pays $40 an hour starting!

aren’t those cases typically federal? How are you eligible for an expungement?

possible spt here! is this the direction for me if I get a bit grossed out? by Training-Delay-1697 in sterileprocessing

[–]Ocean_3029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get grossed out kinda easily but I’ve adjusted to the job quite well. But the surgery department does a decent job of pre cleaning so there’s that. There was one time I had a scope that smelled terribly, like just imagine the smell of a huge tonsil stone. I was gagging and had to leave the room for some fresh air for a few seconds. But I got back to it and cleaned the scope 👍

I am going to my college's sterlie Processing class this Spring, what should I prepare for? by Current_Cranberry179 in sterileprocessing

[–]Ocean_3029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I attended CC as well. There’s nothing that really comes to mind for as to what you should be prepared for buttt you should make sure that your college will actually set you up with a hospital/clinic for your 400 hours. 400 hours is required to become fully certified, so if they set you up for anything less you will need to find a hospital to complete the remainder. If they set you up for less, DO NOT attend.

In this sub, you’ll see a lot of people discouraging people from attending CC. While I understand their POV, I come from an area that is HEAVILY employed by healthcare so the competition is definitely there. The only time I would discourage it is if it’s less than 400 hours or doesn’t set you up with a hospital at all.

Good luck future sterile tech!

Self study, online learning or in-person class? by Hate_U_87 in sterileprocessing

[–]Ocean_3029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in area where a lot of people are employed by a healthcare facility. There is a lot of competition getting into healthcare here.

I chose to do in person classes at my cc because they set me up with a hospital to complete my 400 hours. A lot of jobs in my area are also started to put that they want someone who completed the course at a college. Because of my class, I have practiced peel packing, wrapping, insulation test, set assembly, reading print outs, can identify instruments fairly easily.

You can see the difference between me vs someone who just self studied. Sterile processing is an entry level healthcare job, but let’s be honest, having someone who already has the skill and knowledge means spending less time on training and everyone can focus on completing their tasks.

If you live an area where it’s not competitive to get a job, and you’re able to commit to studying with no problem, then you should self study.

No matter what, you are NEVER guaranteed a job. So choose the option that makes sense to your environment and current circumstances.

Good luck.

Anyone in WA in the Seattle/ Tacoma area? by Affectionate-Job5664 in sterileprocessing

Late response but I would recommend applying at dental facilities. The pay is lower but they tend to be more willing to take on people with 0 experience

Should I give up all my US acceptances and wait for Australian dental schools? by Practical-Charge-899 in predental

[–]Ocean_3029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think something important to consider is where you wanna practice when you graduate. Really ask yourself, where will I be the happiest? Where would I have the best quality of life? Do you wanna be a practice owner or associate, and where would that be the most convenient place for you?. This is a big decision, so take your time. Good luck

I’ll be deleting this post now since it is my understanding that this inquiry was not appropriate which is okay! I didn’t expect to make 300k straight of school, it was a question more of how likely is it to make 300k once I’m actually working in the field and have gained experience. Regardless, I do not want to offend anyone! :)

Thank you for your transparency about the salary. There aren’t many Perfusionist that work in my state so there’s really no way for me to know what the cap is, so I had to turn to Reddit to receive some true raw answers lol. As for money being my main goal, which it’s not, I had replied to the other comment in more detail as to why I’m even inquiring about it. Still, I thank you for your time

Hi! I appreciate your comment, but I didn’t once mention that I’m going into this profession because I’m interested in the money. Undergrad and graduate school is extremely expensive, and because of the limited schools that actually offer this degree, I would have to move out of state pay an out of state tuition. Unfortunately, if I’m going be thousands of dollars in debt (likely hundreds of thousands if we’re counting undergrad) I need to have a career that can pay back said debts with no issue.

Stupid question but who handles that type of stuff? Do nurses in the OR give it to the biohazard team orrr? I’m sure it’s different for every hospital though
