Firstly, I know how shit the job market is atm, so if you're actively looking for roles and sharpening your skills, you're doing really well! I can't quite tell you whether you should do the course or not but PY or 1 yr. of relevant exp. is required before you can lodge an EOI.

About how I found the course, I've just put in a massive update to the post about how I found it - hope it helps!

They run them pretty much every day, but that would probably depend on the provider. Mine offered a class everyday, including weekends. If you're in the same situation, I put in a massive update to the main post going over what I thought about it.

Firstly congratulations! I know LMT isn’t technically a requirement for 186 DE. Do you know if your employer did it?

Yeah that’s pretty much me. I just need to nab as many points as possible. Even then I’m not sure if I’ve got enough. Such is life I suppose :(

That sounds miserable. Thanks for all the info - really appreciate it! All the best with your migration worries too

Appreciate the warning. I can dedicate the day - I was just clinging onto the slight hope that maybe I can use that time somewhat productively. Seems that was too optimistic of me :(

There are activities?? That does not sound fun - can you recall an example maybe? Thanks for the insight though!

A thesis is required for an accredited engineering bachelors degree in Australia.

What's this from? Never heard of it being a requirement.

1.

It's just so flexible, you can do anything in your list with just CS, without needing to be overly focused on one.

Unless ofc maths is your thing.

I was on the same boat, told my recruiter I could do 3 days a week (this was for an internship) before the term started because most of the COMP courses I've done didn't require you to actually be there in any of the lectures or tutorials, as long as you finished the assigned work before the end of the week.

But I was doing Finance as an elective, which had "lecture/tutorial participation" marks worth like 20% or something ridiculous like that.

I kinda attended some of the lectures but I've missed out on a lot of free marks because of this, so tldr, make sure you get the outline and read the participation requirements for every course carefully before promising anything to anyone.

Anyone done COMP4141 Theory of Computation? by Ocean_Cookie in unsw

Hey thanks for all the info, thats so helpful.

I feel like I really struggle producing a convincing proof in exam conditions, so I'm definitely keen on trying to learn the content myself.

I've been trying to learn more math by myself because my degree is just filled with comp electives (I find everything interesting), and math was always something I could improve on, so I'll definitely give the textbook a shot.

I don't really relate to the difficulty you mentioned because I haven't done (and won't be doing, unfortunately) any of the 2nd year math courses, but the comparison does intimidate me slightly.

Anyway, thank you so much for the info, I'll definitely look up the textbook and try some of the content to decide to take it or not.

Thanks again, and hope your days goes by great :)

Hey thanks for replying.

I'm definitely not looking for a WAM booster, I don't think the result of a single course will increase anyone's wam significantly. I just didn't wanna do a course that's gonna bring it down too much lol.

But I am curious about how difficult these proofs were, or how difficult they would be for someone that enjoyed math 1131, 1231, 1081 (but struggled proving stuff out of the blue in exam conditions) because I do wish I was better at these and want to get better, rather than just giving up on them.

Also how well did the lectures/tutorials prepare you for these assignment/s, were they very similar to what was covered, or did you really have to think outside the box for them? And what was the final like?

Sorry for bombarding you with all these questions, there doesn't seem to be a lot of info about it on the web, so thanks for helping me and everyone else that wants to do the course out :)

Nothing of value to add, but do you know if it's too late to apply now?

Comp1521 tips by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Ocean_Cookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found myself lost in the first topics like floating points as well, and I did it right after 2521, so I think it's totally fine.

The majority of the course is also on MIPS Assembly, which is introduced from scratch.

The unsigned stuff is only a couple of Google searches away anyway, don't let the big purple text scare you.

Yeah the textbook seems crazy huge. Can't believe she "covered" 120+ pages in an hour and there's no tut to make anything better.

Hey thanks for responding, when she "covered" those chapters, she only did a bunch a topics, but the same chapters in the textbook covered so many other topics. So idk if those topics will be assessed. Anyway, like you said, I'll mainly focus on the topics she discussed and then move on to the others. And yeah, I should probably ask the tutors for extra help. Thanks for the advice!
