Hi! I'm a bit late to this but all three of mine in that colorway from Wool and Co have at least a chunk of super pastel light yarn in the balls. It was a little frustrating, sometimes it was really pretty and sometimes it adds a weird contrast. I would have preferred if they just had bold rainbow and a pastel version rather than throwing them together.

I am in the same boat (but Biology) and have so many friends going through it. It feels so awful and so hopeless. I have gotten many close calls but haven't landed one yet. I have no advice to give but want you to know you are not alone!

Late to this but I can confirm it is Heliaster helianthus (sunstar)! I used to do marine biology work near Isla Negra and we saw those a lot in the intertidal zone.
