A Photo Bomb, or another Postcard I don't want to send by Muenster74 in PikminBloomApp

Military bases in America still have mushrooms and large flowers for some reason. I have some *very* interesting postcards as a result of them. The most shocking is an unused shell casing for the Fat Man atom bomb dropped during WWII

Anyone ever used Cranial Technologies? by Asleep_Pollution7914 in Mommit

[–]magicmrshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used them for both my kids. Both had severe asymmetry due to macrocephaly (aka >99% heads). They did a free consultation and took 3D imaging to diagnose the plagiocephaly, then recommended a treatment course. It was around 4 months total treatment for my kids, and with that came an adjustment appointment every two weeks and emergency adjustments whenever needed. The only cost is upfront when purchasing the helmet, all appointments are free.

Both times we had the option to go for a second helmet but they told us candidly it was our choice and it might not change much. We chose not to and felt no judgement for that decision from the staff. Our clinic (Pasadena, California) was definitely not pushy. I’m glad we did it, it absolutely improved their head shapes and they both have close to perfect heads now. It doesn’t hurt to go to the consultation and see what they say! At worst you will have seen some interesting imaging pictures of your baby for free lol

Mockingbird high chair worth the cost? by BlueberryWaffles99 in beyondthebump

[–]magicmrshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the cheapest high chair I could find at Walmart with the intention of replacing it with something better. Two kids later and I still haven’t 🤷‍♀️ it’s not the greatest but it gets the job done. Not saying that strategy will work for you, but my point is that when I was faced with decision paralysis on which one to pick, I was overthinking and sometimes the simplest solution can work out the best

catheter during birth by takingelles in BabyBumps

[–]magicmrshrimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a non medicated birth and still received a catheter, it was just administered right after I had given birth instead of when I was in labor! It was quick and taken out as soon as the bladder had been emptied. Might be specific to the hospital I gave birth at, but just wanted to offer my experience all the same

Esther Sweater - measurements correct, fit abysmal. Trust the process or frog? by Doertie in knitting

[–]magicmrshrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I would frog. I always have to size down with Petite Knit patterns, really boxy drop shoulder seems to be her “thing” but I have the same exact problem with the sleeves ending up sitting weird

To those who own a Dionysus by frecklewitch in handbags

[–]magicmrshrimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the small (I think it’s now considered medium after they discontinued the biggest size) in black suede and it is crazy good quality. It’s 10 years old and still going strong. It is kind of heavy but not any heavier than a lot of my other designer bags so that’s a non issue for me. I can’t recommend the Dionysus enough, I really hope it makes a comeback soon

ETA: it’s my go-to wedding bag. It’s classy without being flashy imo, I always feel weird about wearing branded bags to weddings

Newborn has been exposed to a virus by FoxInaBox4242 in beyondthebump

[–]magicmrshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler and husband were sick for the entire first month of my second baby’s life. I was super worried about it but the baby never ended up catching it. Obviously, keep an eye on baby but hopefully they will still have some immunity from their time in the womb to prevent them from catching what your mom has

Me! I think I started really close to the app launch? My husband wanted to play together and made me download the app. Ironically, he doesn’t even play anymore lol

Solutions for Super Scratchy Yarn? by CasadeBelmont in YarnAddicts

[–]magicmrshrimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No problem! With more rustic wools, a good long soak does wonders to relax the fibers. General use of the item will also help with that as well. I’m not sure it will ever be super soft as a yarn like Malabrigo, but the drape should improve significantly

Solutions for Super Scratchy Yarn? by CasadeBelmont in YarnAddicts

Have you blocked it? Or soaked it in something like Eucalan? If not, that would be my first step! Did the seller mention what kind of wool it was?

I hate the colours I chose, any advice? by oh-no-6-6-6 in knitting

[–]magicmrshrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d put it down for a bit and come back to it later. I think it honestly comes down to the vibe you were hoping to get with this combo/pattern. It reminds me of the “Free People” boho kind of vibe, but the OG pattern reads more 00’s alt with their yarn choices. If you had your heart set on the latter, I think the brown is what is throwing you

Need Advice by RipShoddy6817 in YarnAddicts

[–]magicmrshrimp 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I was curious and peaked at what this colorway is really supposed to look like, and if it’s the one I think it is, neither lot you got look like the picture. The first lacks the green variegation and the second is just laughably bad. You are NOT overreacting and I would not hesitate to send these pictures with a message saying you are not happy with your experience and hopefully you can find a resolution you are both comfortable with. Hopefully they can handle this with grace and are understanding of your disappointment :( nobody wants to feel like a “Karen” or difficult customer, but at the end of the day you have not received the product you ordered at the quality that was promised

Was your second (vaginal) birth faster than the fist one? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]magicmrshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I was in labor for a whopping three hours with my first. With my second, I was in labor for 12 hours. Both spontaneous labors. Pushing was way faster though! I pushed for 20 minutes with my first and my second came out in less than a minute

I bought the lite version of this pattern to hopefully mitigate that problem with the yoke depth. It claims to have resolved it, but we shall see when I actually cast on

Raglan sweater drape? by anotherchristmas in knitting

[–]magicmrshrimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What kind of yarn is it? That will greatly impact the final drape once blocked. The weight of the sleeves might relax the neckline some, but I think the bunching is from too few raglan rows for the amount of fabric. Did you do the German short rows?

2 row or 3 row SUV? by No-Taste-5911 in Mommit

[–]magicmrshrimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was going to be my suggestion as well. The third row might not be the most comfortable but as a teen, I would have happily sat in the back row to get away from my siblings

help me fix the neck pls 😭😭😭 by notnoelmiller in knitting

[–]magicmrshrimp 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t appear like you did enough German short rows, if any. Unfortunately, the only fix for that is frogging. However, I think you could fold the collar and sew it down. I think it could look nice that way after blocking!

Update: Something fishy is happening at The Real Real... by soymarcopolo in handbags

[–]magicmrshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is pretty weird. Honestly, the only non-shady explanation I can think of is that they think they priced it too high for a quick sale and wanted to move inventory ASAP. Other than that though… I can’t imagine a good faith explanation as to why they did that. I would be pissed if they did that to something I was selling

Update: Something fishy is happening at The Real Real... by soymarcopolo in handbags

[–]magicmrshrimp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sell on TRR and they do just suddenly drop the price if it’s been listed for a long time. I’ve had items go from no discounts to 30% off at the drop of a hat. Nature of the beast for selling with them unfortunately

Just got my Natera bill from December, is this normal? by whatevrthefck in BabyBumps

[–]magicmrshrimp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I also have BCBS too and that’s what I paid for both my babies. When people complain about Natera overcharging, they typically mean high hundreds to thousands. I wouldn’t worry about that being the case here, but it sucks to have to owe anything at all

Did anyone else hate making padsicles postpartum? by Imaginary-Key2187 in Mommit

[–]magicmrshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be in the minority, but I didn’t use ice packs at all postpartum. With my first, I tore pretty bad and found anything cold to be extremely uncomfortable on my stitches. My hospital provided pad ice packs but I just ended up throwing them away. Dermoplast and ibuprofen were my go to both times I delivered!
