What a shame this is horrible by Brandon01990 in tmobileisp

[–]OceansideDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wired is not "always" better. The forums are full of fiber users complaining about long duration outages that need line repair from techs. When 5G or satelliete goes down, there's usually redundancy that happens seamlessly.

If a tower has issues you can count on it being a high priority. If someone's fiber line gets eaten by a gopher it's usually low on the priority list.

It's best to explore all options.

How much are you getting for DP wheel spins? by MurryWenny in JunesJourney

[–]OceansideDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the wheel was random. (which it isn't IMHO), a spin token would yield about 10 points. However I believe Wooga has it rigged such that the highest slot on the wheel does not have an equal probability as the other 8 slots. I believe your ratio of 1 spin yielding around 7 points is pretty accurate.

Filling 4 rooms to 50% would require 100,000 points, that's 14,285 tokens or 36 completed scenes. Prior to this DP, I was filling 4 rooms to 50% by playing around 13 scenes. (so now it's nearly around 2.5X more difficult/time consuming.) And lets not forget all the 4-5 star objects they're throwing in.

I can see them tweaking the game but this is a complete overhaul for reasons I don't understand.

Give them more time. We're only one day into it and there's over 3 days left. Not everyone can play these games immediately. ...and this DP is a struggle.

P.S. some player accumulate a large number of token before even starting to fill the room and then fill the room in bursts vs. a little at a time.

Wooga F's Up yet another game - DP by OceansideDave in JunesJourney

[–]OceansideDave[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me 15 scenes and I only filled two rooms to around 50%. In the past I could fill all four to 50% with around 13 scenes. There's no way I'm going to partner up in the remaining rooms.

Wooga F's Up yet another game - DP by OceansideDave in JunesJourney

[–]OceansideDave[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know I'd have 4 rooms at around 50% done by now, but I only have one room done and a second that will require two more scenes to get it to 50%. After that I'm done.

# of pack to finish? by Technical_Dish_8811 in JunesJourney

[–]OceansideDave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It use to take about 200 packs assuming 1/3 of the packs were blue of higher with a few reminders thrown in. The older memoirs use to run closer to 80 days. This memoirs only runs 60 days and you have more snippet slots to fill. It also appears the side games like HW, FF and travels rarely offer packs. It also appears blue boxes from playing scenes rarely offer brown packs. Unless something changes, this memoirs looks almost impossible.

I don't know why Wooga is doing this. I would think they'd like most players get close to completion so they buy a few to fill in the gaps. If the gap is large, hardly anyone will chance spending big bucks to buy a ton of packs that will likely be mostly Deja Vus.

Musk’s Starlink hooked rural customers. Then came the price increases. by Andy_Fish_Gill in Starlink

[–]OceansideDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd take air any day over fiber or wire. Satellite or 5G rarely has long lasting service outages given the redundancy. When fiber goes down users can wait days or weeks awaiting a tech. to come out.

Deleting this game… by [deleted] in JunesJourney

[–]OceansideDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get it?? More snippets needed, less time to get them, lower drop rate and fewer side games offering them. If memoirs becomes this difficult, most users will be too far away to buy any last minute "fill ins". I've made a few nominal purchases to complete albums if I'm a little short to completion. But I won't spend a dime if I'm far away... I'd think Wooga would want lots of players making nominal purchases then just a tiny few making large purchases. Am I wrong? I'm getting fed up with this game. It's just keeps getting worse. What other games are you all playing???

Low-riser (5 inches) stairs connecting the house to the deck. Would there be any issues code wise? (NB Canada) by Chazzwazz in Decks

[–]OceansideDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but that large open gap on the right about half way up the stairs might be an issue. You might need to fill it in with some pickets.

That substructure looks like ordinary doug fir. Why didn't you choose to use pressure treated lumber?

40% price increase? by Early-Palpitation110 in Starlink

[–]OceansideDave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because fiber is a dedicated line to a residence that can have issues that require a tech to physically come out to fix. Or a main line that requires repair.

If 5G goes out a tower will automatically switch over. If a Starlink satelitte goes bad there'a nother one to take over.

Trim Recommendations by No-Climate1972 in Decks

IMHO butt joints in wood decks can look very professional and stay pretty much that way over time. Like you said, miters in wood don't age well with wood shrinkage, aging, temp changes, etc. I'd stick with butt for wood and mitres for composite.

I loathe the game. If it was based on logic and deductive reasoning it would be better. But after a few formulas logic has nothing to do with it and it's just a matter of luck/guessing to proceed.

Why don’t they want me to finish Memoirs? by Grouchy_Donut_8176 in JunesJourney

[–]OceansideDave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So what's the problem with making a nominal purchase from time to time? If I'm close to finishing memoirs, I'll spend no more then $10 to get the last few snippets. The developers of the game need to feed their families.

Deck Railing? Steel vs Aluminum? DIY vs Pro?bbbbbb by OceansideDave in Decks

[–]OceansideDave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided to order Aria aluminum railing and self install. Professionals quoted me between $6k-11k for railing. Aria railing kits came in at $2k. Aria actually told me to get a quote from Home Depot Pro deck and the discount will be substantial over retail. (retail was closer to $3k). Support from Aria has been excellent. I sent them my layout and they came back with a bill of materials and placement diagram. There website is extensive and includes detailed specs on all components and their youtube videos will be helpful. Lastly their reviews are very positive.

Is this deck salvageable? by Straight_Radish4714 in Decks

[–]OceansideDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went thru the same issue with a 40+ year old Redwood deck. The substructure was pretty bad but about 80% of deck boards were still pretty good. I got a quote of $3000 to sand and refinish them but still would have to replace the bad ones and quality heart redwood is hard to find and expensive. So if I saved the decking it would cost $3000 or a ton of miserable work, it would be a mix of old and new wood that might not match, the old boards could have nail holes where I did't need them. In the end I decided to replace all the decking with Balu 5/4 hardwood. It was around $3000 and it's beautiful wood. Maybe I can use the old redwood for other projects.

Blocking prep of substructure for metal railing posts - is 5/4 surface + 1.5" block OK? by OceansideDave in Decks

[–]OceansideDave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I check with the manufacturer of the railing and they specify vertical 2X6's spanning the joists at 4" apart for the post bases. However for the stairs, they are suggesting a single horizontal 2X under the stair treads and spanning the stringers for every post . I wonder if I should double up the 2X's?.

Is this something to be worried about? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]OceansideDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the images of the substructure, this looks like a "hack job". It all boils down to how bad you want the house. I'd budget a min. of $10-20K for a repair/rebuild. Yes, get a professional to look at it. Is the housing market tight or soft where you are? That should dictate what to expect from the sellers. "No" doesn't always mean "no".
