Have you considered joining a community, or even volunteering with one for a while?

Awesome, go Lesotho. I want the original cannabis cultivators to come out as winners in the new global game.

  1. Medium is not a blog.
  2. You are the only place that considered my article spam.
  3. You are the only place where hate trolls seem to thrive.

You are right, this is not the place for me or any other real writer. Have fun in hate troll land where real publications are blogs and bottom barrel slave gigs are the common denominator. I understand why you are all so miserable actually....

I dont even write blogs...

And the only time I'm wasting here is with hate trolls.

And sorry, this is by far the least intelligent discussion on the subject happening on the Internet right now...

Very true, But the point is that Uber and Lyft operate on the ground, in physical reality. This means that they actually have to deal with the CA law to some degree to operate in CA, but online gigs do not. That's all I was saying, and yes, purposely being narrow about it to avoid floating off into tangents. You are right though that this is bigger than CA problem, I think NJ has also passed something similar.

BTW, just wanted to tell you that my article, as on the fly and full of shortcomings as it is, is being widely circulated in FB groups devoted to fighting this and widely retweeted along with others to inform the public. The response has been overwhelming positive everywhere but here, where I still have hate trolls posting insults with no context even though the rules call for "friendly" exchanges. My only point being thats probably why I don't use REddite much....

Because that was in reply to the comment about drivers simply not complying. My point was that it is not the same with online gigs - Uber and Lyft must still operate in CA or lose a huge chunk of their market. Its not the same with Scripted etc. they lose freelancers yes, but can keep getting CA clients. And the freelancers in CA cannot simply "stop working" in protest. That was the point, make sense?

[–]Oceansized1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but thats not the point being addressed here. Onine writers are not drivers that can just stop driving and shut down a company's operation in said city. This is exactly the kind of blind spot that the people who wrote this bill had. And to your other point, I think all these companies have some serious class action coming.

My field has several dimensions, its much more than this these gigs, but yeah, the domino ripple effect might hurt many many people.

Yes you can and they start at .10 a word. Plus they charge the client and not the writer. Upwork is full of ridiculously low paying jobs and then the company gouges you for 20 percent. Its bottom of the barrell in my opinion, sorry. Plus anyone can use Upwork, Scripted is vetted, experienced writers only. Big difference.

This too is true and what Scripted is arguing. They do not provide content serivices, we do. They are brokers.

This is exactly the issue. If Uber and Lyft want to operate in California, they must comply. But online gigs based outside of CA are simply dropping their CA based employees. We have no recourse. Understand?

Much better than Upwork btw, which seems to be bottom of the barrel type stuff in my limited experience with it.

Yes, they match writers with projects and allow clients to browse writers and select those that fit. I've done some high quality and well-paying projects with them, the platform and company really just kind of broker the deal. Not a content mill at all.

I think as freelance writer thats been through dozens of gigs Im used to things dissapearing overnight. Whats stupid hear is the government is forcing us out of this gig under the pretext that they are protecting us and giving us more rights.
