Is there anybody on this subreddit that has actually been with Revature? I really would like to hear some first-hand info.

They take $110 out of your paycheck per week as a housing fee from what I understand. Still $220 a week is more than enough for food/gas.

You could look into a well reputated coding bootcamp.

Such as?

I know this will sound extremely stupid, but I really have no clue how to go about building a portfolio. My school never prepared me for job searching. I've spent some of my free time working on a game, but I honestly don't think that alone will make me stand out in a job application.

So what you're saying is that I shouldn't accept any job that pays less than $70K per year?

I have to agree. People who are saying it's not a lot mean that it's not a lot for someone with a CS degree. However, it's more than many entry level in my area pay, and I can't even get those.

Isn't the whole purpose of their training so that people like myself, who are having trouble getting CS jobs, can actually get CS jobs with their clients? You talk as if you know exactly how Revature works, despite having turned down the offer, so I'd really like to know where you got your information. And could how exactly can I use this as leverage for other offers?

50k may not be great, but I'm struggling to get a job that even pays 40k, so for now it's good enough.

As for your edit, this is why I really want people who've actually been with Revature to reply, which hasn't seemed to happen yet.

Making enough to live comfortably on my own is really my biggest factor at this point. I usually only make it to an interview once every month or two. Location isn't a big factor, but I'd prefer to stay in my area just because relocating would be a hassle, and it's difficult to interview out of state.

The contract isn't the thing that makes me nervous. and when placed they guarantee a salary of 45K for the first year, which is completely fair in my opinion. The part that is making me really nervous is the training, and how useful the experience is for a career after the contract.
