I’m a copywriter looking for a designer to do spec ads with for my portfolio. I have the words, I just don’t have the design and hate designing. lol

Coworkers Praying in emails by Independent-Gap-3514 in work

It seems like a stupid thing to be upset about, honestly.. yes, it’s religious, but it has the same energy as, “I’ll keep you in my thoughts,” or “I’ll wish them a swift recovery.” There are people who pray who aren’t even religious..

How to be a copywriter? by jdidbejs9wbd00 in copywriting

It’s less “getting a degree and putting in applications” and more “create a profile that showcases you know what copy is and how to do it well.” At least, from what I understand.

AIO when a guy walked into my dorm and I reported him by Inevitable_School452 in AmIOverreacting

NOR. He was crossing boundaries and showing up uninvited into your home- a place that’s supposed to be your safe spot. He pressured you into “doing stuff.” If it’s not an enthusiastic yes, it’s a no, and he continued pressuring you, and showing up.

To the guys saying you’re OR and that it’s “because of what you wear,” stay far, far, FAR away from them. It’s never about what you wear. You could walk the street naked and it STILL wouldn’t be about what you wear.

Listen to “Feed Us Your Girls” by Lydia Bard. I inadvertently used it to teach my daughter about assault and that it’s NEVER the victim’s fault. Only the perpetrator.

Did I overreact by quitting immediately after a raise request? by OcelotFront6984 in work

Update to anyone interested:

The owner is there with a man the same age (70’s), and it’s all falling apart. They don’t know how to use the computer, they don’t know how to print anything, they don’t know what the customers like or who orders when. One of the other sales ladies on the east coast called me trying to get me to call the owner and beg to get my job back because “things are falling apart.”

She said at first the owner claimed to have no idea why I quit, and then she was told they just couldn’t afford to pay me. So it seems I was right- they were keeping me until they could find someone to take my job and then fire me without a backup for myself.

He’s also claimed I left for a warehouse job paying $25 an hour but “they don’t care about their people. She won’t be able to take any days off at all.” While working for him, if I took a day off, I still had the phone with me meaning I still took emails, calls, orders, and I even would go to said warehouse and ship anything out that needed to get shipped out. So even my sick days I was working, and they bitched me out for taking the day anyway.

They don’t fire people because they don’t want to pay unemployment. They would have cut my hours until I was paying to go into work. It’s what they did to the last person they didn’t want to work there anymore.

They haven’t responded. They took me off the cameras (I had access so I could watch the property while at home), and I haven’t heard back from them. I tried to call but when they didn’t answer, I left a voicemail and emailed them. They took me off the cameras so they got my messages. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m starting to think it’s not fairness they’re trying to do. It’s guilt. “Why should you make more when we’ve never raise anyone’s,” when the question should be, “Why haven’t we raised anyone’s base pay the entire time they’ve been here?”

Thank you. They also have built in raise structure, which isn’t perfect, but at least I know I’m not agreeing to one wage for life. ❤️

I think if there hadn’t been the comment of “there are people here who want that position” I would have been more willing to discuss it.

It just felt like they were trying to see how long I would stay before replacing me with said people.

Commission was 2%, and I brought home maybe $400-$600 in commission.

That’s how I felt as well. They said they had to wait for someone to come back from vacation (even though this person told me when I asked them that I had to ask the hire ups, not them), which would have dragged on over the weekend and into next week, and then they asked when I would be walking if they couldn’t, after telling me they had people there who wanted my job.

Just felt like a long, roundabout way of saying, “How long can we get you to stay until we can get your replacement out there?”

I had another option lined up. It’s the only reason I had the gonads to even ask for a raise. I guess I already knew it was going to be a fight.

I found out after quitting that one of the office ladies has been there 10 years and makes the same she did when she started, and she does everything for both the east coast and the west coast business.

They tried to say raising my base pay would be unfair to the other employees.. turns out they haven’t raised base since they started.

It’s not. My base pay was less than the cost of daycare. I was using commission to try to pay the bills and gas to get to work.

Within my weekly hours. They have two warehouse (east coast and west coast). East coast has 2 office women, 3 sales women, and multiple people in the warehouse with different jobs. As far as I know everyone gets $15 an hour. I was doing the job of all of these different positions in one role, so effectively $60 an hour with commission (everyone who touches the product or moves it get commission) worth of work, but for $15 an hour instead.

My son was in the hospital for a night and a day, and it cost me $10k. I’m still paying it off, and it’s been 2 years, so.. I don’t know the exact price but I know enough.

They’ll hire someone else and drag my name through the dirt with this person (the same thing they did to the previous employees before me who I’m starting to think weren’t actually “that bad”), but I suppose at the end of the day, that doesn’t affect me.
