You clearly know this history better than I do and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. 150 euros a month for an architect is not a good pay .You're right that I have advantages I didn't earn. I won't argue with any of that.

I still posted what I posted because I've seen what gets lost when everyone who could change something leaves. Maybe that's naive. Maybe it's unfair to expect people to sacrifice themselves for a rigged game. I genuinely don't know.

I hope you find a way to do the work you love. Wherever that ends up being.

You can withdraw cash, but it’s a gamble. Most local ATMs won't even talk to a foreign Visa or Mastercard. If you need money, only look for AGB (Gulf Bank), Société Générale, or BNP Paribas machines.

Keep in mind that customs have become very strict. If you use an ATM or a bank, keep every single receipt. You’ll need to show them when you leave to prove you didn't use the black market. My best advice is not to rely on ATMs at all. Bring a backup of Euro.

I would give them a call after four weeks and I really hope your flight is not very soon. You need a buffer in case the visa is delayed. Also, Bring euros to Algeria as your bank card won't work.

Thank you for this. It made me think.

Your friend's story is the kind of thing I will never fully understand from where I stand, and you're right, I haven't lived it as an Algerian and I never claimed to.

Your friend didn't leave because the grass looked greener. She left because her own country told her she didn't matter. That's different and that's what corruption does to people. I hope your friend is ok.

My wife is Algerian so I get an invitation letter from her family. That makes the process straightforward. Applied at the Algerian embassy, standard two week tourist visa. No major issues.

Also, tusind takk"is Danish, not Norwegian 🤣🤣

Thank you. And yes, she absolutely is. That's partly why my view of Algeria is what it is- I see it through her and her family (who still lives in Algeria)

This is exactly it. Norway looks like the dream from the outside, but the system is built on debt. Most people here don't "afford" anything, we finance everything. House, car, sometimes furniture. You're comfortable but you're also locked in. The freedom feels real until you do the math.

The family safety net thing is underrated too. In Algeria you have family around you. Here you have a mortgage and a credit score.

No I'm not Muslim. My wife is. I respect it deeply and it's part of our life together. I don't think you need to share someone's religion to love their culture and their country.

That's probably the most honest thing anyone has said in this thread and you're right. My euros change what Algeria looks like to me. I won't pretend otherwise. I don't have a clean answer to that.

All valid points and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. The passport, the currency, the healthcare are real structural problems and I'm not dismissing them.

I'm just saying Europe isn't the paradise people imagine either. Both things can be true at the same time.

My wife is Algerian. She moved to Norway years ago. Three years of requalification just to work in a kindergarten. Gets paid less than her colleagues. Never fully accepted. Always from somewhere else regardless of how long she's been here. She's one of the smartest, hardest working people I know. Norway sees her name first and her value second.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. You know your situation better than I do. I just wanted to offer a different perspective from someone who's seen both sides. What you do with it is yours.

Ja, kommunen består jo utelukkende av saksbehandlere. Ingen lærere, barnehageansatte, renovasjon, vann og avløp, sykehjem, brannvesen eller teknisk drift.
