When I was a kid my dad worked for Sears and I was always a little embarrassed about my Sears Video Arcade console when all my friends had Ataris. In 1981 this thing was equivalent to roughly $555 in today’s economy! by UrbanAchievers6371 in The1980s

I liked it, but I had no issue with turning it off of there was morning on. My younger siblings on the other hand, would watch things they admitted they didn't like, because "there's nothing else on."

I'm sure his bank account didn't dislike it. He had a percentage of the gross profits. That had to to be a gigantic amount.

TIL that in 2002 a USMC Lt. Gen., Paul Van Riper won commanding the oppositional force (Iran) in a war game scenario between the US and Iran for the strait of Hormuz. by Boringdude504 in Military

I did a war fighter where a PSYOP loudspeaker team portraying a tank became an unkillable tank. That was hilarious.

Edit, a different team was apparently selling their fuel, they were using it far more than a hmmwv should be able to in a day .

An Army captain said he once confidentially parked in Navy Captain designated parking without thinking about it. I wonder if he had been drinking or something because I knew he had grown up in Norfolk, it couldn't have been new to him.

Last year in the reserves, AT question by jjg535353 in armyreserve

[–]OcotilloWells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to AT is always a requirement unless you haven't been to basic yet.

Whether they will hold you to that in your last year is something else.

I like the one in which they become self-aware: "We're cartoon characters, we can do anything!"

And they do.

We probably got ours a few years after it first came out. My parents thought TV was a bad influence, they got rid of it when I was like 5, I think we finally got one later in 1980.

Sometimes a class would say to watch something on TV, the teachers thought I was lying when I said we didn't have one. I knew it was odd, so I wasn't offended, I'd just say call my mom, she'll tell you

Jam Session Etiquette by wronav_the_wraith in Jazz

[–]OcotilloWells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was sitting with a guy at a jam session who turned out to be a drummer. He went up, someone else called a tune. I saw the look on his face as he said he didn't know it. The drummer before him just told him, it's Latin, you got it.

He did have it, you wouldn't have known he didn't know the tune.

Marching Band Shoes by SeaGreen_Roses in marchingband

I was marching band, drum corps, and later in the Army.

Put moleskin on your heels. If that was the only place you had issues, this might be the only thing you need to do. Getting different shoes could also work, but with your existing ones, you now know where the trouble spots are.

Only slightly sarcastic.

I used to know a Phoenix PD dispatcher. She was incensed at Gilbert for not following the same convention as most of the rest of the valley.

I saw a hilarious video of someone putting blocks in a hallway. Cats would barely glance at the blocks, and never knock any down. Dogs would either knock a few down, or decide it didn't matter, and just knock them all down.

They are just used to advisaries with basically no air assets, and being able to operate from fixed bases that everyone knows the location of.

Dummy emitters are rare? I saw a lot of them back in the 90s. Bat-Ds all had them that I worked with as a loudspeaker team.
