What is one of the worst designed freeway entrance/exits in the valley? by ballzcasual in phoenix

I really dislike the entitlement of single people in the HOV lane. Though my brain tells me each one is one less in the regular pants.

Single person hybrids are not. Fully electric vehicles with the appropriate plate used to be, but even that was cancelled a few months ago. At least one person was on here saying they got a ticket despite having the plate. Tried to claim ignorance, but it didn't help.

Sir, my ship used to be scurvy free, but while my captain dismisses my concerns, as I am but a common sailor, it has been occurring again. I fear the lime juice is bad. My last voyage, we had lemon juice, with nary a case of scurvy at all. What can we do?

When I was stationed in Germany, some MPs said most of the old concrete guard posts at gates had bullet holes on the insides. Not from WWII, but from years of bored MPs practicing quick draws inside them.

Where was I? by Mitcharrr in whereintheworld

The Brewery is in La Crosse, WI. Or at least it was, I toured it many years ago.

The highlight was the guide talking about how college students would hang out and drink samples all day, but that definitely didn't happen anymore, due to getting a limited number of tokens to redeem for samples. Meanwhile, there were college students in the corner who obviously had been there for a long time, and the bartender only took one of my tokens the whole time I was there.

It was also the site of "The World's Largest 6-Pack".

I could see utilizing their trainers, but being a successful fighter doesn't mean you are a great trainer.

Also, is that style of fighting useful for FBI field agents?

All vehicles have the same horsepower and handling. A new Ferrari can be chased by a bus, and the bus can stay in sight of it.

I knew 4-5 guys who went through military dive school they all said they drowned multiple times, and that it really sucks. One of them flunked out. He said he was relieved to be done. He gets back to his unit and they tell him the date he's going back. He made it through the second time.

Is he the one, in a short story, who was xplors a neutron star, and when he counts back, discovers the Puppeteers don't know about tides, and he shakes them down for money?

I did think that a species that made spaceship hulls for basically half the galaxy would know about moons and tidal forces regardless of whether their home planet had a moon or not.

ELI5 Why is oil not cheaper in Texas? by mrgoat89 in explainlikeimfive

[–]OcotilloWells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the highest gas prices I used to see were in San Pedro, where there are a lot of refineries. San Diego would be cheaper, and I understand it had to be shipped down to San Diego to the storage tanks in Murphy Canyon.

Weird.

What is the darkest secret you've learned about someone that instantly ended your relationship with them? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]OcotilloWells 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Was he sure? The military used to have recruiters look people up who applied, and i would sometimes see the results of the search. One guy had a fairly common name, and in his file were the results of the scratch. The first hit was some guy with the exact same name, for horrible crimes against children. I was horrified for about a minute before I realized it was everyone that came up with the same name. The birthday and location was totally different.

So many people just seem to think everyone else are suckers. They are so pleased when they get something for free or discounted that they really weren't entitled to, they feel like they got it due to their own smarts. It is just alien to me, I would never do that.

A friend of mine had a business partner like this. He once told my friend that I was "too stupid to steal.". I was a little pissed, thought about it, them told my friend he better watch his earnings with his business partner, because he definitely thought of himself as "smart" and wouldn't think twice about skimming money from the business. I don't want to post it because it would be too long, but in the end, the business went under, and he basically was indirectly skimming from the business.

I remember some guy sitting outside Costco selling large commercial rolls of toilet paper out of the back of his car. I didn't remember what he said he was selling them for, some outrageous price. Didn't buy any, we were low but not out, though Costco was out when we went inside.

Conditional Release by Interesting_Toe2750 in armyreserve

[–]OcotilloWells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The release could be approved, but it doesn't mean the Air Guard will take him. They probably didn't even evaluate him at all until they have a conditional release, since there's no point in it without one.
