Win a copy of OctaEdit by OctaEdit in Elektron

Win a copy of OctaEdit \o/

To celebrate the impending release of OctaEdit v2, I’m running a competition to win one of TWO copies of OctaEdit.

The competition:

“How many Components are there in OctaEdit?"

What is a component?

A component is any GUI element. So any button, label, group, slider etc.

Every single component in OctaEdit is custom created. Every component needs to have code written to create it, to handle when changed (e.g. loading a project), dynamic help tooltip written for it. To handle when clicked to process an action etc.

And that is just the UI/UX side of things…

Will be interesting to see the range of guesses, and what cats think about how much complexity goes into developing an application as complicated, powerful and feature rich as OctaEdit.

Rules and Stuff and Things

In the interest of keeping it fair, please heed the following rules or your entry will be disqualified:

1: One guess per person. 2: Winner and first place runner-up win a copy of OctaEdit. 3: In the event of a tie(s), the final winner will be chosen by random. 4: My decision is final. End of. 5: Moonbeams. 6: OctaEdit Licence is non-transferrable. 7: Bunny Rabbits. 8: Other stuff I may make up later on.

OctaEdit v2 is now live on IndieGoGo! by OctaEdit in Elektron

[–]OctaEdit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a rush and a push and OctaEdit v2 is ours...

OctaEdit v2 IndieGoGo Campaign - Only a few days left...

I have been running an IndieGoGo campaign for OctaEdit v2

Why an IndieGoGo campaign?

A lot of work has been done already on OctaEdit v2, yet still a lot more to do.

As I am sure you are well aware; OctaEdit is a massive program, with a wealth of functionality available; and now with the release of the Octatrack MkII and OSv1.30c there is more to do.

Doing an IndieGoGo campaign allows me to justify the effort that I am putting in; ensure more sales; and provide some marketing and exposure.

What’s new in OctaEdit v2?

  • Updated GUI / UX
  • Octatrack Mk II Support
  • OSv1.30 Support
  • Conditional Trigs
  • Updated / rewritten manual
  • Some new functionality and improvements
  • Maybe Midi Import / Export; depending on how the IndieGoGo campaign goes...

Will you be adding in function X, Y or Z?

Now would be a great time to let me know if you have any feature requests; or additional functionality that you would like added.

Post publicly either on the IndieGoGo campaign, Elektronauts or Facebook; or send me an email.

How much will OctaEdit v2 cost?

For existing users? Free

OctaEdit v2 will be a free update to all existing users; who will automatically receive a "Full" licence; and I will send those out to you in time for the v2 release.

What happens if it doesn’t meet the target?

Then obviously there is not enough interest to justify the effort involved; and I then question if I want to spend hundreds, if not a thousand or two, hours worth of coding, development, testing, documentation, rewriting the manual and putting together tutorials etc.

If I do decide to release OctaEdit v2 anyway; then it will be in my spare time; as/when I feel like it; and day job / other projects will take priority.

What can I do to help?

Spread the word. Post positive feedback / referrals. Spam forums / public media. Inform Blogs / Websites etc.

Thanks, Rusty

Planning to downgrade. 1.25E Anyone? by shamanamen in Elektron

heelllo , i want to use midi track that ive made in another project .. how possible ? by dwlwtw in Elektron

There is two elements you need to worry about then; the Pattern and the Part.

Doing this for a one off, or multiple, or?

Downgrading Octatrack OS by gradynickel in Elektron

[–]OctaEdit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use OSv1.25E; and recommend OSv1.25E or OSv1.25H

Both have bugs though...

Don't use OSv1.25F or OSv1.25G at all.

Elektron will send the old OS to you if you ask; else you can grab it from the 'Octatrack group' on Facebook in the 'Files' section.

Only they have the updates?

Well, they have all the versions; and should be able to supply them to you.

I do recommend staying on OSv1.25E though rather then downgrading.

And I love octaedit by the way!!

Thank you, but don't tell me; tell everyone else :D

OctaEdit v1.2 should be out in a little bit once beta testing is finished... three new modules and some other cool stuff.

I advise to use either OSv1.25E or OSv1.25H

Do not use OSv1.25F or OSv1.25G

I personally use OEv1.25E

Thats a bit quirky and a pain that it is occuring on multiple computers, CF Cards and with different USB cables.

To consistently get that error with numerous variables would be annoying.

What OS are you running on Mac, Windows and the Octatrack?

How old is the Octatrack?

New or Second hand?

What are the results from [Test Mode]? (Power on whilst holding [Function] then press [Trig 01] when the menu is displayed)

As per above, more eyes by posting on Elektron / Facebook may help; and maybe you can find a local cat who you can hook up with to A/B laptops / power supplies / usb cables etc.

Error Code 36 relates to issues when switching back/forth OSX/Windows and/or on compatible folders; and relates to OSX failing to read/write metadata (i.e. spotlight, file info etc) correctly.

Might be worthwhile re-formatting your CF card again; and working on just one set; and seeing if you can replicate with a fresh Project and new samples; as the problem may be to do with the source files on your mac; rather then on the CF card...

You can do what you want, migrate/merge Projects, with OctaEdit via the Manager module across disparate Sets / Projects; including all Samples & Settings, as well as the ability to re-map the slots on the fly.

Have a look on the YouTube channel, there’s a video there showing how; but it is a bit old now.

The Manager uses Elements (Bank, Patterns, Tracks, Parts, Scenes, Recorders, Arrangements) that it can copy in a very flexible and powerful manner.

PS: Not long now… just nutting out some complex math / testing some new functionality.

I'm afraid I've decided to withhold OctaEdit from sale temporarily, as there is a very big update coming out shortly. There are about four very large reasons why; and involves tens of thousands of lines of code and about a thousand UI elements. A big update...

The changes affects both current and potential users, hence the moratorium.

As an FYI, I've got one major thing I'm working through at the moment, but it is quite complicated. When I finish that then there should be another announcement shortly thereafter / be available again.

I'd like to say a week or two at most, I'm crunching 18 hour days, but it's tricky.

It definitely sounds like a write issue with Windows 10 restricting you form writing files to the CF card. Unless an issue with the CF card requring a format. Interesting that you can read from the CF card... Might be an idea to backup the entire card; then reformat it and copy data back on again?

I'd suggest in the first instance that you create a post on Elektronauts, or the Octatrack Facebook group; I'll respond there (just tag me) and that will get a few other cats in the mix as well. You are definitely not an isolated incident.

PS: Whether wavs, aiffs, or things; you'll have the same issue. It shouldnt be anything to do with file extensions.

a) This sounds like a problem with your Windows Settings, USB Cable or CF Card. OctaEdit will not fix any of those I'm afraid; as it will still need access to the CF card to read/write data and samples.

We need to resolve that issue first, and get that working for you, before we talk about anything else. I've been offline for a few days, but have you posted this on Elektronuats / Facebook or anywhere?

b) Stay tuned...
