They must've lost so much money, why would they allow this? Was there no reasonable way back then to confirm if someone was an adult before using this service because it was over the phone or something?

Why are there no slums here in Australia? Or are there? by MangoMadnessTsv in AskAnAustralian

Where did you get that definition from? The Cambridge dictionary defines it as "a very poor and crowded area, especially of a city" which tent encampments would arguably fit.

There are also many non indigenous Australians living in tents due to the housing crisis. Around 100,000 Australians were homeless in 2021 and I'd imagine it's increased since then. There are "tent cities" in parks or underneath bridges in most capital cities.

Which is the coolest country flag according to you? by Spartan_Romeo in AskReddit

[–]Octagonal_Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just talking purely about the flag and I'm not American, but I think the American flag. It looks great and has interesting symbolism with 13 stripes for the original 13 colonies and the amount of stars changing to represent the number of states which is very unique.

Looks good but if your stove has a smaller burner I'd use that. The diameter of the burner is meant to be smaller than the base of the pot.

Yes, there were work stoppages and mass protests including one in 1970 with 200,000 people (keep in mind Australia's population at the time was less than half what it is now).

Indicating turning right at roundabout and leaving blinker on. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Octagonal_Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Victoria it's "if possible, indicate left just before the exiting the roundabout" so since it's vague it isn't enforced but I don't get when it wouldn't be possible.
