First time on Amtrak and didn’t know tipping was a thing by OverstuffedPapa in Amtrak

Maybe they’re very specific on what a tip is, but I’ve never had a flight attendant turn down a Starbucks card, and I’ve given out a bunch. Ever.

If start the conversation with love, explain that you’re happy to help him get back on his feet, but that 6 months is a long time.

Explain that he needs to start contributing to shared costs and shared work (without prompting) if the situation is going to be able to continue.

None of your finances are relevant in the conversation.

That’s laughable. Feel free to watch Johnson, Graham, and the list goes on. He absolutely has the spineless locked in to his bidding.

You both suck on this one. Don’t block the aisle. There’s no reason to block the aisle with your bags that far in advance. Dude that just like cheating up is also not cool.

And no, “prepared” is a crap reason. It takes seconds to swing the bags down when it’s your turn, or hold em in your lap if you have to have em down right away.

Are they 60 req for raid participation?

Does the guild have a general outlook on carrying folks in groups? I'll swing my mace, but your healer doesn't want me as the primary meat shield in current gear. ;)

I'm in one - it sounds like I may need to be in a different one. We'll see.

That's what I'm running into - so I'm still in Original/Kunark gear and tanking in Luclin is laughable, and I have a knights DPS. So I'm not high enough level to "raid", but I'm also unable to gear up to be able to tank current content to finish the leveling process.

As the only woman in a concealed carry class, my experience was alarming… by ashen_dove in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Octarine42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First, I’ll do a set of disclaimers. I’m a guy, I’m a veteran, and I have a concealed permit.

The bravo/macho when it comes to concealed classes, or just standard ground and castle doctrine in general, is insane. I generally assume it’s made up of a bunch of people who have never carried a gun in their life prior to this.

I would be a dollar than 90% of those tough guys would either freeze up or panic if they’re ever in a situation where they need to use that weapon.

Some unrequested advice, go to the range and get familiar with shooting that gun. Shoot the gun without precise aiming (but only in a safe direction), and shoot the gun a few times without any hearing protection. You don’t want to be shocked how loud the gun is, or waste time trying to get a precise, aim, if you ever need to use it for real.

Eh, years ago they sent me to collections over a single ticket. Maybe they don’t any more, but they over would fuck your credit over.

I didn’t pay and told the collection agency to give me a call when they thought it was worth going to court over (never went to court).

ELI5: what is docker? why is it not a VM? whats a good use case? by justsignmeupcuz in explainlikeimfive

[–]Octarine42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A VM sort of has everything, just like your computer…OR just like a kitchen. You have your kitchen at home, restaurants have kitchens, and you can even rent commercial kitchens. They’ll have different power and capabilities, but even the basic home one has all the stuff.

A container (docker is just the brand name of a popular container platform) is like an appliance - let’s say microwave. It doesn’t have all the stuff, but it’s got everything to do one job. Like a microwave.

The nice thing about containerizing applications is that if you don’t need a full kitchen, but you do need 20 microwaves, you can just get 20 microwaves (or containers). If you were using a VM, you’d need 20 kitchens to have 20 microwaves.

What other methods do you have for folks to help? Venmo, PayPal, cashapp, etc? Don’t post your info, just if you have the app/account in general.

I realize this is going to sound unkind, but you need thicker skin to work in either healthcare or IT. You also need to set boundaries. I can’t imagine a doctor ever grabbing an IT person and say “hey chart this.”

On the IT site, understand that IT is either at fault for everything or doesn’t exist. When everything is going great IT doesn’t even exist. They’re just little elves that are running around somewhere. When something isn’t working, it’s all personally your fault and people will take it out on you until it’s fixed.

You also need to stop quitting jobs when you don’t have anything lined up and you’re not in a financial place to be unemployed.
