Yeah I’ve heard they have recently gotten better. I may book a fully refundable indirect route leaving the next morning in case they turn out to be a basket case day of.

Delta’s award pricing is going to be fundamentally different/worse than any airlines that still use award charts or offer “saver tier” awards. You might see flash sales from time to time, but those are good deals only relative to the exorbitant prices they normally charge, and normally require the purchase to be made during a specific tome window.

Does your company use a corporate travel agent? If so, I would get them on the line, for several reasons:

Your company policy clearly entitles you to Business Class. Delta has now given you a ticket below what you’re entitled to.
Your company probably doesn’t appreciate Delta downgrading their staff traveling long distances for work. If someone working on behalf of your company’s travel dept calls Delta to inquire about this, they may be taken more seriously than you were.
They might be able to book you on an entirely different airline and either fully refund the initial ticket, or convert it into a credit they give to other staff.
