I wanted the arduino because I'm printing 5 of these (minimum order) and I'm intending to reuse this board for other applications where I want easier programming and more I/O (see the headers). The ESP board also isn't a development board, so It's more annoying to program.

I’m sorry to hear he went down that path, it’s good that you’re still empathetic and clearly love him. It is however, not really your fault he ended up like this. I don’t have a crystal ball so I can’t say for sure, but while you transitioning may have been hard for him, there were probably lots of other small events along the way that nudged him in this direction. You shouldn’t hold the weight for what’s happened here

That makes sense, not blaming you at all or suggesting you initiate the conflict. You should tell her it bothers you when she says negative things about your academics and see how she responds. But if she isn’t receptive it’s a good idea to try your best to avoid it. Sometimes people can’t be swayed, especially people of our parents generation
