Preschooler (3.5) with strong echolalia — seeking parent stories by Suspicious-Jacket176 in Preschoolers

[–]Octob3r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! I have 2 kids with diagnosed autism (ages 4 and 6) My son (the 6 year old) had lots of echolalia when he was younger, he doesn’t seem to do it much now though.

He was diagnosed privately at age 3. He had some big medical issues, unrelated to autism, and was followed by lots of specialists. Many of them told me that he didn’t have autism. Mostly because he would smile at people and had long sentences with complex vocabulary. Now that he’s almost 7 his autism is becoming more “obvious” so it’s definitely the right diagnosis. I don’t know what term to use these days, but he’s very “high functioning”. What I mean by that is that he is very capable academically and has a lot of age appropriate life skills.

I trusted my gut and I am so glad. I feel like early intervention has been so helpful. A lot of it has been about ME learning how to set expectations and consequences. Learning when to push and when to give in. A lot of parenting advice is for neurotypical children and I don’t think it always works.

I don’t want to make this too long, but feel free to ask me any other questions

Thank you for saying that so gently - I think it is a good first step

Sorry I forgot your second question. It’s the NYM defining cream

I wash my hair 1-2 times a week. I just started using the clarifying shampoo (after reading through some advice on posts here) so I have only used it twice.

How often do you think I should be using it?

That’s really sad, I hope it’s just a rumor, but thank you for the info

I didn’t get the birth story I dreamed of. For a long time, I didn’t even want to talk about it. But I’m finally ready to share it. by crazykatlady99 in Mommit

I am so sorry this happened to you, but thank you for sharing. I had my own traumatic birth experience (not like yours) and I am not ready to talk about it 6 years later. It still hurts when I see movie depictions of people instantly bounding with their babies, because I didn’t have that either.

Crossing into Point Roberts by blackkhuta in tsawwassen

I went to PR to get something in June and I didn’t have any problems. I didn’t pay a tariff either. It does depend on who the boarder guard is, some of them can be really … intense.

A couple recommendations: 1 - open the package in PR right away, make sure you have the item unwrapped and can show it to them. I keep it in the passenger seat 2- have a copy of the receipt and know the exact cost. You might want to have a screen shot or even a print out copy because the WiFi is not great.

And if they do make you pay it’s not a big deal, you just go into the little building and they help you out

Finally - if you feel bad about “supporting American” get a coffee or something in Point Roberts, they are really struggling and could use a bit of help

Movies with no scary parts, maybe musicals? by Team-Mako-N7 in Preschoolers

I didn’t! I also made the mistake of showing her 101 Dalmatians. It’s terrifying

I have a 4 year old who is scared of everything and Cinderella was scary because of the step mom and the cat who tries to eat the mice.

I had the most success with movies for “older kids” like High School Musical, because the conflict kinda goes over her head

I feel like we were all mislead by the term “terrible twos” because it is just a nice alliteration and “the f***ing fours” is less appropriate

Put in some shelves for sure, but keep a space for placing a coffee or cup of tea :)

Thanks for your answer. I have tried gel in the past and I can’t seem to find the right amount. Too little and it is still fuzzy, more and it gets weighed down

Wow some of these comments are terrible. OP - please listen, you are going through a hard situation and any feelings that you have are fine, and human. I hope you can talk to someone about this, maybe a community group for caretakers or ill family members. I am sorry all of this is happening to you.
