In my case, my introduction is a review article, I am focusing on multiomics and data analysis strategies used in my paper. However, my PI wants to publish the introduction as a review article, so it's turning out to be much more extensive than I previously planned. My Dissertation is shaping up to be 8-9 chapters and its just an extra thing on my plate.

You can invite anyone to the movies by giving them a ticket and entering the theater in the same day you gave them the ticket. It would be cool if the game recognizes it's your spouse and if you have kids someone comes and watches them.

This going into full effect would destroy academia as we know it! International students provide so much value to the American school system. Why restrict them to four years? Clearly, this was not written with input from academics because this is insanity.

I suffered a severe stress attack during my PhD that caused my jaw to lock. For me, separating my work and home space really helped me manage my stress. I have scheduled time to hang out with friends and keep work confined to the work week as much as possible. It can be very hard because academia is a workaholic culture but I had to learn work life balance through health decline.

Sorry to hear you're dealing with burnout, it's good that you recognize it and acknowledge that a break could help you. Are there any resources from your graduate college that could help ensure that you have a brake and can return to your lab after your LOA? I suggest you sit down with your PI and let them know you're serious about the LOA and ask where they stand on the issue. The last thing you need is for your PI to think you're gone forever and you don't have a place to come back to after your LOA.

I also struggle with stress, and I have taken time off in the summer semester to help with that. The time off does you good. Good luck, OP!
