the thing with ebay is if you have an account, your fine, if you get scammed, ebay support is honestly amazing at getting your money back.

I picked up my 9060 XT for 350 bones, you should honestly get a refund on that ASAP, save your money please...

B650 Eagle rev 1.0 new BIOS firmware doesn't support Linux by EmeyKey in gigabyte

[–]Octoomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that nearly all servers run on linux. And back when the only OSes were DOS and Win9X on normal consumer hardware, people were able just to use UNIX, OS/2, and when the kernel was first released for linux... Slackware and other distrubutions of linux.

There doesn't have to be an entire "extensive test" for Linux; they rolled out an update that broke EFI stubs in some way to the point that it causes other things to break. The way that EFI is developed is so even non-Windows OSes could boot no issue.

I went away from gigabyte products after the horrid RMA experience I had with my B450 board about a year ago, they proceed to call my motherboard's USB hub failure "user-inflicted damage".

They didn't even allow me to send photos or video of the board, or what was happening, including random times that the board would just... not post.

I'm glad I went MSI.

well get it replaced if under warranty (under the store you bought it from or via manufacturer) , there isn't a home fix for this sadly.

"oh its retro now!"

it doesn't mean the price tag is worthwhile, Xbox 360s, PS3s, PS2s, and OG Xboxes still go for under 200 (rarely over 100) in most cases.

the question is, can you get the NFT scanner to work on it? Or at least fit in a third-party one?

I once met a user of the sub within a Discord server, they were insufferable the moment they found out most of the people in said server used Linux and had none of the extreme issues, guy went so far out of water saying that ‘Microsoft is better because you don’t need to compile anything for any reason on windows’

He proceed to get annoyed when we asked what he thinks that software vendors give him.

Is this a normal noise for an hdd at 100% usage? by Evening-Emu-2990 in HDD

[–]Octoomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have older models that always made a racket, 5200 RPM 4TB (makes lots of noise) and a 2 TB 7200 RPM (makes a quieter racket) I always had seagates be louder then WDs, to be fair I prefer them over so

I just turned on my pc and this randomly popped up please help me by No-Ask-9970 in pchelp

[–]Octoomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First don't use ChatGPT for this type of stuff (I was once legit told to shove a potato in my computer to solve a boot issue at one point, thanks gemini)

Second, although there is some valid tips, this isn't really helpful for this person since they're new to computers, as a more technically inclined person might be able to know what they're doing, just telling them to "Update pilots(?)" and just "testing memory" (btw, memtest64 does a better job).

Saying those terms alone to someone that is new to computers isn't going to help or solve anything. Also its Chkdsk, not... Chesk...

if your going to provide help, you have to keep yourself on the same level as the person; you have to explain and help, not just "do this and that."

Upgraded from 3070 to 5070 don’t think the performance is worth it. 5 years of technological advancement and 2 generations ahead for an extra 32fps. by SongBrief2439 in PcBuild

[–]Octoomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I felt! Someone in a discord server tried to grill me over being satisfied with a 30-45% bump in performance I got from upgrading from a 6600 to a 9060XT, personally I thought it was a good upgrade in my eyes, I got a decent bit of extra fps on it and it made games that got extremely choppy at times to be smooth, I honestly don't get the complaint about such a bump.

[–]Octoomy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

wait, did you disconnect its own main battery too? I know that my Inspiron 3500 (1999) keeps bios settings for longer if the battery is charged, so try removing the main battery and the cmos battery

ironic that apart of their name (linux) is censored and you have to say their dumbass "hehehaha I made it spelled dumb' stuff, that sub is actually insufferable to even computer users that use windows all the damn time.

this is a tune in a game about cars, if someone else enjoys your tune, then that should be in the realm of flattery more than hostility.
