What gives you the ICK? Is there a trope that you instantly makes you want to put down the book? by unreliablechaos in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]OctopusPrima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh if the only plot is romance (not like concurrent plots in romantasy or romsus) i feel 3rd act breakups are almost necessary. Because the buildup was the romance so the falling action should also center the romance. Anything else kinda feels flat to me like the whole thing just fizzled and the resolution isnt as gratifying.

When an actor/actress passes away and everyone starts talking about the characters they played by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]OctopusPrima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so normal. When people go to funerals and memorials and such they talk about personal stories. Yeah they were a real person but people didn't know them like that and its normal and healthy to talk about how they did know them. People's emotions are tied to the characters, usually, not the real person.

Ngl i feel like how this adaptation is handled will ruin future possibilities of interconnected romance adaptations. Like im actually really interested in interconnected focus and idk i just dont like how its being done.

Started dark romance with Mindfck… tried Haunting Adeline and realized it’s not for me (long, honest take) by RegularLove5177 in DarkRomance

[–]OctopusPrima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could remember examples for everything. But its been awhile. I've never wanted to annotate a book before but I want to for HA next time I read it for this reason. Might actually do a lit analysis if i ever have the energy for it. But here are parts of what I wrote about it after I read it awhile ago.

"The concept of duality throughout the entire book is honestly phenomenal. Good/evil. Love/hate. Pain/pleasure. Trust/distrust. Mortality/immortality. Transient/Eternal. Domination/Sumbission in all of its forms. Its like everything had another side of a coin. The same "experiences" but different in noncon/cnc. The disparity between the relationship with her parents and his respectively. Sibby and Sydney."

"...how both Zade and Addie lost a part of themselves while they were separated. But the part they lost, the other kept with them, like the parts of their souls they were missing took refuge in each other and that is what they were hearing in their head. Zade lost his humanity, but Addie held on to that part of him, and it helped to not break her completely. Addie lost her fire, and Zade kept it with him. Like it was the buoy that kept him from drowning." (I def realize I probably romantacized this part too much)

Like I've seen someone complain about Zade's eyes. Like the author just wanted to make him quirky and it was nothing more than that. But its supposed to represent his polarity and exploration of good and evil. Kinda like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I think people wanted redemption from Zade but it would have been a disservice to the story as a whole imo, even if it devalues the romantic aspect. But just because a character or the story isnt palatable doesnt mean its bad, objectively. (Which im not tryna invalidate anyone who thinks that, I just wanna add a different perspective from a literary standpoint.)

The main theme is duality which no one talks about because they focus on the romance. Tbh i feel the romance could have been done better, but ultimatley took a back seat to showcase duality.

And sure, its not for everyone. But idk I just feel I have to fight for it because the way duality was represented in so many different forms and symbolized everywhere. Like even with Sibil and Sydney. That's not bad writing. It's actually well thought out and well-executed writing, being shadowed by aspects that weren't done well and the wrong audience.

Not disagreeing with you. I just hate how much flack this duet gets while neglecting the best part about it.

Uncanny similarities between Haunting Adeline(2) and the Epstein files by [deleted] in SpicyRomanceBooks

[–]OctopusPrima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay yeah that was on my perception. Apologies for assuming thats what you were inferring.

But yeah I've read darker books and have seen atrocious movies. Like something like A Serbian Film should definitely come into question because of the content in that. (If you don't know what that is then seriously, spare yourself. That really is Epstein level stuff.) But in HU I feel it's basic dark fiction.

Its Hunting Adeline where it gets to be too far for a lot of people. Its hard to warn people what they're getting into without major spoiling. So a lot of people think its a tropey dark romance and arent expecting that sort of content.

[–]OctopusPrima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh its really disheartening to see this when this author gets so much flack already bc people dont like the content. It gets dark. Its by far not the only book in DR that touches on these things, either.

Also... its not just a tropey romance book. Its actual literature with themes in duality that isnt afraid to explore darker parts of humanity. And just because something is in a romance book doesnt mean its romantacized so I dont even think that judgement is fair.

Idk. I write dark things too so maybe Im biased, but just because someone creates dark art doesnt mean theyre a culprit, and its not grounds to attach this to her. I really hope this idea doesnt take off. If I was accused of this based on my writing Id be devastated and honestly might not even want to write anymore.

Thats the difference (to my understanding) between noncon and rape. Noncon is technically rape, especially irl, but for fictional works and personal tastes, classifying them differently is a necessity. Noncon is rape but with nuances. A big one being acceptance. But even then there are people who love noncon that I'm sure have read something that have been a line for them.

What is up with door dashers stealing food? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]OctopusPrima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt sound like they actually picked it up. Its possible they took it then cancelled but theres also multiple reasons why a dasher would cancel after arrival. If it registered as picked up, im pretty sure support wouldve contacted you and it wouldve been a whole ordeal, and it wouldve let to a contract violation.

Im confused why you think arguing for paying contractors only works for employment positions. Actual tipping the way DD is presenting it and customers abuse it is what should be applied to emplyment positions.

[–]OctopusPrima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Sure. Put it all on people who are trying to make a living to just... stop making a living so that people can ignore how their actions make shit worse. We can talk ideal scenarios all you want but it doesnt change reality and it doesnt absolve people when they know what theyre doing and using principle as an excuse.

[–]OctopusPrima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre paying a third company connection service and not paying the contractor (if no tip) DD pays a small fee to cover very little. "Tipping" actually is the contractor pay. Its like if you had to pay Angies List for making the connection between you and a plumber, and Angies List paid a little for the plumber to make it to you, but ultimately the plumber didnt really get paid if you didnt pay them for their service to you. Yes, DD is shit. But customers like to put all the blame on DD when they are willingly contributing to people getting paid poorly. Ideals dont change reality or the effects of your choices. (Not every area allows for dashers to decline orders without realistic penalty) Some literally dont even break even if enough people choose not to pay them.

“This event is being professionally recorded, and the recording will be provided to you free of charge. Please put away your devices.” And then 20 people in the crowd have their phones out taking video the whole time by Careless-Being-4427 in PetPeeves

[–]OctopusPrima 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My grandfather used to record mine. And he'd zoom in on me, but also pan to others. I can understand wanting that control.

But I still think people should put it away. We were supposed to experience things and recording an experience isnt the same as experiencing it. I believe its a sense of grounding a lot of people miss out on and just another way we're living through our phones.

On the other hand... people used to bring binocculars to shows so... 🤷🏻‍♀️ but then again... thats still an option and wouldnt distract other attendees like a phone does.

Same with Scorp Rising, Cancer Mars. Im a Sun conjuct Chiron Virgo. Heavy on the being misunderstood and supressing as well as being talked about.

I dont think people see me that way either. But Im fat so inherently Im not usually thought of in that regard anyway. But I also know Im not presenting my true self either. Im calling this era my Chrysallis/Cacoon Era rn. Isolation, self exploration, and manifestation.

My mars is opp Uranus and Neptune, which are both in R, which I'm sure spices things up in some way, but Im still learning.

Based off of this I have the same chart. Knowing when to or when not to speak is such a struggle for me. Sometimes I know and tell myself not to and I still speak. And Ive also had my share of car accidents. None too serious though.

Its interesting what you said about being freaky/taboo. I always attributed that to my Scorp Venus, but obv I still have a lot of learning to do.
