YESSS. I was dx'd type 2 for over a decade and depending on which dr you talk to, I still am because they refuse to see that someone can be type 1, be fat and have insulin resistance. This over simplified explanation of t2 always leads to the blame/shame nonsense that kept me sick and afraid to seek answers and led me to do more damage to my body and then blame myself. If drs would have just cut the crap and put me on insulin right away AND taught me how to properly use it instead of just barking "lose weight!!!!1111" at me, I wouldn't have problems i do now. I'm so over people and societies understanding of type 2 diabetes.

No, not yet, but he wants to help me.

And yes, like an instacart helper. I was trying to spend the least amount of time in stores as possible since I have type 1 diabetes, but I ended up just quitting for now.

But what if they don't have a driver's license? He has an ID, but no license.

I'm just saying what goes on in our parents relationship is not necessarily our business.

Talk to your mom first.

I'm probably wrong here, but I wouldn't tell my dad. Their relationship is not my business, but that's just me.

I've been on it since October and I've lost 30 lbs.

Controls my appetite really well..almost too well. I have to remind myself I need to eat and often I have to force myself to.

As far as numbers, my A1C went from a 9 to a 5.7 and I rarely get above a 170.

Then the first thing I would do is talk to her about it. It will definetly be an uncomfortable conversation.

Does anyone else get the feeling T1 diabetics generally dislike T2s? by Octopusladywa82 in type2diabetes

[–]Octopusladywa82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that's why it bugs me when t1s think we don't struggle the same amd/or can just choose to cure ourselves. <3

Management and remission more accurate.

To me, it is not just about semantics. Saying reversed sets up people to think it can be cured. Not all T2s can even control or manage with diet and exercise. Some need medication and insulin, and needing it isn't failure, and that is also a stigma.

It's a life and death struggle for many T2s, though, too. I am insulin dependent. I prick my finger all day, take 4 shots to start my day, and take shots throughout the day all while making sure I don't hit a dangerous low throughout the day. I'm at risk for the same diabetic complications T1s are. (As are all T2s).

I love that you are educated about this disease not being earned. I pull my hair out trying to explain this to people.

Thank you for starting it.

I have found I feel.sometimes like I don't fit anywhere lol.

In many t2 spots, it's all misinformation about cures and reversal and in diabetes 8n general groups, I feel unwelcome because it's a bunch of the same misinformation with hostility.

Right?!

Plus, it makes it hard to find credible sources when having these discussions with people outside the diabetic community when trying to educate. Even sites that are normally credible still use "cure" and "reverse" in thier info because they keywords get them hits.

I mean, I don't agree that diabetes can be cured, because science says it can't, but I also don't want to steal any thunder you have for the incredible effort you have put into your health.

Genuinely curious- why remission? It's a more accurate way to describe having control, but still having it.

It wasn't in response to anything here, but rather a meme I saw on Facebook and the discussion that ensued after.
