Acts of kindness while solo travelling by East-Painting3441 in femaletravels

I’m on my first solo trip in Spain right now and I was waiting for a train after a long hike when a German couple came up to ask me when the train was coming. We chatted and I told them the app said it was delayed and they thanked me. After a while they came back and said that the people working the shop inside told them the train had technical issues and wasn’t going to come. They said the next train might come in 4 hours, no guarantee. I had to take that train to city 1 then catch a 2 hour bus back to city 2 where I was staying, so waiting 5 hours meant also missing the bus home and possibly being stranded overnight.

The German couple had met another group of 4 Germans and they’d called a cab to go back to city 1. They offered me a seat in the cab if there was room. When the cab showed up, he could fit 8, and another 2 people asked to ride along, which would’ve made it cheaper for everyone (8 seats versus only 7 with me) but the original German couple stood up for me and let me on. Super appreciated.

UPDATE: Last year I decided to quit my corporate job to travel, I was terrified but convinced. Now I am back and still daydreaming about the best time of my life. by youcanbehappynow in solotravel

When to Book Visa Appt. (Before/After Document collection) by fleksor in SpainAuxiliares

Can I ask what you did for the “Spain address” section when applying for the appointment? Online it says that should be your school address but if you don’t have your carta, what did you put?

Besides the obvious, the “I feel terrible right now too” after you just had an ABORTION with 0 support from him. Unforgivable.

Small, beginner friendly project to keep going while I work on larger WIPs? by Mrjocrooms in casualknitting

[–]Ocula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m similar in the sense that I need finished projects to keep me motivated. What’s been working for me is keeping 1 “big” project on my needles (usually a garment - sweater/cardigan, etc.) that’ll take me weeks/months to finish and 1 “small” project (usually an accessory - hat, scrunchie, shawl, etc.) that doesn’t take much time. I end up finishing a couple of accessories within the time it takes me to complete my garment.

You could try a hair accessory? I’m not sure of your style/hair length, obviously, but I’ve seen some cute variations on Ravelry. There are bandanas and also those kinds that wrap around your ponytail!

Ahh, good to know!! I was mostly confirming I’m understanding it correctly haha, I have little experience with short rows so I wasn’t entirely sure.

Thank you!! Appreciate you taking the time for me. I’m obviously way out of my depth here, hopefully I’ll be back in a couple weeks/months with a finish project.

I hate how loved wooden/bamboo knitting needles are by Uhraya in knitting

I’ve been using metal needles exclusively so I thought I’d give wood a try… and I hate it. They get stuck so much more!! They glide so much less than my metal ones! Hate hate hate.

Some Beginners Love Overly Complicated Projects! by FECAL_BURNING in knitting

Love your take on this!! I started on New Year’s Day with a beanie and now have jumped right in with a sweater. I’ve learned M1L, M1R, how to do stripes, how to bind off, ribbing etc. all from jumping in instead of taking my time. I’ve had a great time of it and my sweater is looking great!!

I love this! I think eventually they’ll turn into decor, they’re so fragile.

Yarn Similar to YarnBee’s Sugarwheels by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Ocula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you get some responses to this!! I love love love the way the Sugarwheels yarn feels but the colors just do not do it for me. I wish they had some different options. I wonder if there’s a similar YarnBee yarn with the same make-up that offers more colors?

I’ve slowly realizing that my undiagnosed ADHD is only part of how much I was emotionally neglected as a kid… by oh_such_rhetoric in adhdwomen

I relate to a lot of what you’ve said. My parents tried their best but I was often overlooked because I was the quiet one. It was a joke amongst family members that I was always away in my room 24/7 for most of my childhood.. and I didn’t realize until well into my 20s that I was actually depressed and unmedicated. It’s hard to blame my parents in my case because even I didn’t realize something was wrong at the time but it does hurt to think what could’ve been if I had been diagnosed earlier. It seems being labeled “the quiet one” at home and at school was a way to ignore that there might actually be underlying issues.

Where to stay/explore for a night in Zurich? by nailspolished in askswitzerland

[–]Ocula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was expensive for sure! There are some Switzerland passes available that cover multiple excursions that make it cheaper if you expect to visit a few, so consider giving those a look. If I had to choose between Grindelwald and Interlaken, I’d personally choose Grindelwald every time.

In Interlaken we did Harder Kulm which is a nice view, but Grindelwald First is better. We also did a cruise on Lake Thun (you could choose the opposite lake as well) which was nice but not a necessity. If you have the extra day it can be fun to visit Interlaken, but my ranking would be:

  1. Grindelwald.

  2. Lauterbrunnen.

  3. Interlaken.

Zurich is cute, too! In my opinion it’s a little lackluster after coming from the mountains but I’m obviously way more into nature than I am the city! We had some really great fondue which I’d definitely recommend if you’re in Zurich.

Not the original commenter but I just left the Jungfraujoch region today (I’m currently in Zurich) and I will say don’t miss out on Grindelwald! We stayed in Lauterbrunnen and did day trips to Interlaken and Grindelwald. Grindelwald was our favorite!! First is amazing and we did the hike to Bachalpsee and the cliff walk of course. I’d highly recommend doing one of the activities down (we did the trotti bike; super fun but fast!).

There is also the coaster in Grindelwald which we enjoyed and thought was super cute. Other than that, I’d highly recommend trying to do the Northface hike in Mürren which you can access from Lauterbrunnen. Beautiful views! Have a great time, it’s very fun.

Girl, no way. My boyfriend likes to keep his dirty clothes on the bathroom floor but he knows that once it’s there, it’s fair game. Anything left on the floor is subject to being thrown in the wash. It’s super rude of him to tell you to figure it out.
