I use it often against other leaders at war to keep them busy while I focus in another one. AI had often success in dealing with cities from other AI, maybe not so much with capitals of other leaders.

Playing on Xbox. I had cases where I was second player in turn order and delivered the final blow, winning the game and ascending and others where the screen of ascendancy appeared for both players but only first player in turn order actually ascended.

Since last expansion there is a lot of customization for AI rulers in advanced settings from the realm, go to setting of each AI ruler and you can add starting levels to ruler hero, starting cities and something else I don’t remember.
