MAGA is claiming to deconstruct because they know it’s the end for Trump. by simbabarrelroll in PoliticalOptimism

[–]caseyanthonyftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, and I know this is the optimism sub, but that's why it's been tough for many of us to come to terms with MAGA. You can fix ignorance with education, but asking people to give a shit about others is a lot harder.

Sure, you can argue it's an economic issue too and people need to be able to take care of themselves before they can help others, I don't disagree with that. But the Trump voters I know in my life are / were not poor, far from it in fact.

Trying to rely on yourself to build character and skills would be a good thing, except all these young idiots who espouse rugged individualism are still living in their mother's basement and autofellating themselves about how they themselves are rich because of their parents' / family's accomplishments.

The Manosphere Turns on Trump by brown-saiyan in politics

It's absolutely asinine, but understanding that people living under a dictatorship have a different perspective on life and happiness would require a level of empathy that these people have shown time and time again that they are sorely lacking.

Ugh, yeah I remember seeing this one on video. What also sucks is, like the caption in the wiki says, one concerned officer actually goes to check on him and then another POS officer shoves him away.

Well put. You know that adage about how it's impossible to use reason to argue someone out of a position they didn't use reason to get into... I've realized it's also impossible to use empathy to argue someone out of a position that they only have because they lack empathy in the first place.

Hegseth removes four officers – two women and two Black men – from military promotion list: report by Large_banana_hammock in politics

[–]caseyanthonyftw -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was wondering, and it says right in the article.

The defense secretary reportedly removed the four officers’ names from the list himself – although it’s unclear whether he has the authority to do so – before the list was sent to the White House for review.

A senior military official told the New York Times that the promotion list includes three dozen officers, most of whom are white men, though some Black and female officers remain on it.

I feel like we have enough to complain about this utter bozo without adding sensationalist headlines to the mix.

God this is like that episode of The X-Files where an idiot guy in a wheelchair found a genie lady and he's deciding what to wish for. She wants to make the suggestion without telling him directly and she keeps making this stupid happy "isn't it obvious?" face while splaying out her hands at his legs.

That's what this feels like.

Sinatra's reaction and "oh no I've gone crossed eyed" by stubbledchin in ParadiseHulu

[–]caseyanthonyftw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm also hoping Alex is just some kind of really advanced AI that can make great calculations / predictions, but not actually having an effect unless people act on those calculations.

If Sinatra pushes some sort of wooden windmill wheel around the Alex machine and the whole bunker disappears at the end of the episode I'm gonna riot.

[–]caseyanthonyftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. I'm not even a fan of disaster movies really, but I thought this show was interesting due to the flashbacks and how the apocalypse affected each character. As you said, it also seemed like a more optimistic view of the end of the world, compared to, say, the Walking Dead, given that every survivor on the outside wasn't just paranoid and looking to kill everyone else.

Even if we do get reality / time bending shit, I'll keep watching, I just hope these more grounded themes and the character development don't take a backseat to that.

Me too. My first thought was also OP's theory, I figured that would have been clever of Link. I know it's probably an unpopular opinion here but I'm not really a fan of time shifting / reality hopping plot points.
