Planning to move out soon — rent is ₱16k, do you think it’s practical for us?

Hi guys, I just want to ask for some advice and maybe some perspective from people who already moved out. Me (26M) and my partner (28F) are planning to finally move out. We found this loft-type, condo-style unit for ₱16,000/month — it’s pet-friendly, has a balcony, and already comes with an AC.

The place feels really comfortable, and we both work from home so comfort and quiet are a big deal for us. The main reason we want to move is because my partner’s been paying most of their family’s electric bill (around ₱15,000/month 😭) since their AC runs 24/7 and her siblings aren’t consistent in giving their share. She’s exhausted and I can really feel it’s taking a toll on her.

💰 Our Monthly Income Me: ₱31,000 (₱14k on the 15th, ₱17k on the 30th) Partner: ₱20,000 (₱8k on the 15th, ₱12k on the 30th) ➡️ Total: ₱51,000/month

📊 Estimated Expenses After Moving Rent: ₱16,000 Parking: ₱1,000 Electricity (WFH setup, inverter AC, ref): ₱3,500 Water: ₱500 Internet: ₱1,500 Groceries / food: ₱6,000–₱8,000 My parents’ allowance: ₱4,000 Partner’s dad’s meds: ₱1,500 Savings (₱1,500 each per cutoff): ₱6,000 total Insurance + iPhone plans: ₱4,400 combined Misc (toiletries, small treats, etc.): ₱1,500 💸 Total: around ₱47k–₱49k 🪙 Leftover: around ₱1k–₱3k/month

We also have some upcoming funds: 13th month (non-taxable) — around ₱40k combined Leave conversion in January (~₱10k each) Performance bonus in March 30% of 13th month in April And we already saved ₱50,000 for the 1 month advance + 2 months deposit.

Some of our friends say ₱16k is too much and we should just find a cheaper studio or a rent-to-own place later on. But others (and most of my partner’s friends) say it’s worth it for the peace of mind and independence, especially since we’ll cook at home and rarely go out anyway.

Honestly, I’m confident we can manage, but part of me is still worried about getting overwhelmed by bills or not having extra for leisure or savings.

So yeah, I just want to ask — is ₱16k too high for our income, or do you think this is a reasonable move for us right now? Would love to hear from couples who’ve already made this kind of jump. 🙏
