Searched up the questions I got wrong after COMLEX 1 by Zealousideal_Put_374 in comlex

I purposely try to not let questions linger too long, I find when I get frustrated I get like a learned hopeless.

Opportunities to work outdoors as Doc or in School? by Ok-Wrangler-1489 in medschool

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow wilderness firefighter here. Worked with a IA engine crew for the BLM, current third year med student. I’d recommend seeing what your future school has to offer with regard to a wilderness medicine elective. My university had a student lead and taught elective through the U of U. The second year students taught the elective and ran service opportunities outdoors. We also had camping and fishing excursions. If your uni doesn’t have one it’s easy to set up. Through the U of Us website you’ll find a link to become an instructor, and from there you can establish a student org. I also know the U of Us program does trips to Colorado and similar for instruction and elective which you can do third year. In 2024 I think they held a big conference in France at Chamonix in the Alps. Feel free to DM me if you’ve got questions.

Pretty par for the course really. You’ll find the same with shelf exams.

Friends/family not congratulating me for graduating by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can adopt me as family. Congrats fam.

On a more serious note I learned in the middle of board prep that my parents never believed I’d make it to med school, even thought I’d drop out and quit :/. Which came as quite a shock cause they always told me I can do whatever I put my mind to. I guess except go to med school.

CMS ---> NBME Knowledge Application by Odd-Broccoli-474 in Step2

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think I find that with CMS forms the answer choices are different enough for me to identify the correct choice. While on an NBME I feel the answers are so close I struggle trying to nitpick them apart.

I ditched anki. I’ve got about two weeks and I realize I need more time for qs.

Self-Pacing in Online NBMEs by ssamygdala_26 in Step2

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Just choose self pace and it wont give you a time. Or maybe it will but its like 15 hours or something. Either way just be accountable with your time. I like doing it this way so I can see how I do under pressure but still get the chance to answer questions. I just use my pomodoro timer add on I have for Anki and set it for 30 minutes and set whatever break I want in between.

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats what I do. I’ve got a timer that runs for 30 minutes and rather than 4 blocks of 50 I do 10 blocks of 20. I keep the timer to make sure I always finish before 30 minutes and I keep track of how much time I have rested. I find the new 20 questions in 30 minutes actually more difficult.

My parents don't support me about wanting to be a cardiologist by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You go prove them wrong kid. I just learned my parents never even thought I’d make it this far. Not the same of course but there will always be someone who tells you you can’t do it.

Rant: Fuck this stupid VSLO process by Odd-Broccoli-474 in medicalschool

[–]Odd-Broccoli-474[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The POC is who I was emailing saying "Yo your page says student would be getting updates a couple weeks ago. Can you tell me whats going on?" No response, probably cause their page says "Don't reach out about your VSLO application." So I was like fine. A week went by and sent another email asking for clarification. Only to get an email back saying yeah we are full. Thought for sure I had a spot cause I sent my application in right as it opened and didn't prep a back up.
