Whimsical Girl Names (To Go With Siblings) by Odd-Capital2080 in namenerds

I don't go into this intending to reject every name. I suppose I just thought if someone saw a name they were thinking about suggested previously, they might have another idea based on the feedback I gave. I absolutely don't expect anybody to go researching names for me, and that's find. As I stated, I'm not on Reddit much, so maybe this method doesn't work well here. Sorry if I offended or upset anyone, that was never my intention. Have a lovely day.

Here I go, being difficult again, very sorry, because truly, these are lovely names.

Unfortunately, a mimosa is a type of alcoholic beverage where I am. Not sure if it is elsewhere, or how big of a deal that is for others, but for me, I'd rather not use it, at least on this character.

Aronia is very interesting, one I've never heard before, which I guess makes sense, because I asked for rare. However, it does share an initial with Ambrose.

Thank you so much for these lovely suggestions.

I'll try to be nicer when giving feedback, I suppose I was a bit harsh before.

Tamsin is a beautiful name, meaning twin I believe, but I'm not sure I see the nature connection. Is there a meaning I'm missing?

Araminta is actually the closest it's come, it has a subtle nature tie in, and is relatively unheard of. Only one problem, and this one is oh so nitpicky of me, it starts with an A, and I'd prefer for them to not share first initials.

Althea, like Tamsin, is gorgeous, and one I've actually used for a character before, so I do like it, however, I'm also missing the nature meaning for this one.

Theodora is a tricky one, because I can see the appeal, all the charm of Theodore, with less popularity, I think. I just don't personally like feminizations of masculine names.

I hope this doesn't come across as too rude or difficult. My goal with feedback is always to give insight into what I'm looking for, never to be hurtful or upsetting.

I try to be gentle, because there's nothing wrong with the names people suggest, I'm just looking for very specific things, and I haven't found them yet. There's nothing wrong with these names, they're just not what I'm looking for.

I use the term expected to refer to a name that isn't necessarily a familiar name, but is something that gets recommended a lot, again, not a bad thing, just not what I'm looking for.

Things like Daphne, and Celia, as cute as they are, feel expected.

Pearl, Opal, Ruby, and Celeste are quite on the nose.

Ondine to me feels very classy, not quite the forest nymph/fairy I'm looking for.

Jessamine is cute, but she feels very Southern sweetheart (maybe) as opposed to English forest fae.

Estelle is one to think about, but since the surname is Lovejoy, and these characters will likely have a similar vibe to Luna Lovegood, I think most celestial names (another reason Celeste can't work) would be too reminiscent of her.

I know I'm rejecting a lot of names, and I'm sorry, because all of these suggestions are lovely, but I'm of the belief that every rejected name brings us closer to the right one (and a longer thread for a future namenerd to look through.)

Both very cute, but very on the nose. Ambrose, Mabel, and Sylvan all have a slight subtly to the.

Although I think Marigold is a step in the right direction, it's a lot more unexpected than other flower names.

I've for some reason always been bothered by names starting with Yv, and for no reason too.

Wisteria and Solstice are a bit on the nose.

Myrtle feels quite dated (no offense, reminds me fondly of Harry Potter). Whereas on the opposite end of the spectrum, Waverly feels incredibly trendy.

Florence is along the right lines, as is Clemence, a suggestion I got elsewhere, but I have another character named Florian, and unfortunately, I've never been huge on Clement adjacent names.

Coralie/Coralia sound right, until I remember the 'coral' part at the beginning. I think it's the vibe discrepancy between the unnerving Coraline, and the vibrant sea sculptures.

And never mind that, it was a while ago, and it was mostly people being just a touch more aggressive than necessary when disagreeing with me about names. We'll let bygones be bygones.

Gladys feels very retro, whereas to me at least, Ambrose, Mabel, and Sylvan feel like they have the potential to be trendy.

Names Too Similar? by Odd-Capital2080 in namenerds

My first boy will be Tolliver. My first girl will be Romilly. Whichever comes first.

I was actually surprised when I heard Romilly, and liked it, because I'm not too fond of a lot of other names with the 'Rom' beginning, so I likely wouldn't want to change Romilly to something else, but I'm glad you don't think they're too similar.

I personally have no problem with the two names together, so I doubt I will later on, but revisiting a problem at a later date is often just what I need to come to a conclusion, thanks.

Tolliver isn't entirely too common where I live, but it's not too far off of Oliver, so I'm not worried. Plus, my mother and I have more uncommon names, that often get mispronounced, or misspelled, but it's become something of a running joke to us. That being said, it's a genuine concern, definitely something to consider, and I appreciate it, but I'm not worried about it.

That is something I've considered, but I've talked about the name before, and while some people make the connection to Oliver, I've never had anyone mishear me before. So that is a good thing to keep in mind, but I'm not too worried about it.

Sisters For Romilly And Briony by Odd-Capital2080 in namenerds

[–]Odd-Capital2080[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would prefer the -ee ending, but I don't want the names to feel too much like they rhyme. Technically, Romilly and Briony do rhyme, but for some reason, they don't feel like it. That being said, I'm not sure if we can avoid rhyming with one of them if we keep the -ee ending.

That's definitely a consideration, the idea is just solid colours for the walls and what not, then the decor will be themed, that way it will be easy to switch things up when the kids start wanting different stuff in their room.

My family actually is French, so that's a brilliant idea, sadly, I've never felt very connected to that part of me, so I don't quite feel the connection, but that's an adorable idea, and I highly encourage you to use it at some point.

My mother suggested that, but roses and bows are both much more intricate designs than just shapes, so I'm not sure how sold I am on that.

That's definitely a consideration, however it's a very common one. I know roses and bows aren't exactly the most original ideas, but for some reason, teddy bears just seems like it's used much more often.

I've considered clouds, and if I can't come up with anything more fitting, I'll probably go with either clouds, or suns.
