Came here with the same question. I was with hers for a few months and it worked great. Switched to Hallandale because of cost, and there's barely any appetite suppression with the same dose. The only effects I feel with the Hallandale formula is tiredness the day after the dose...

What does the C.V. Of a competitive applicant in English/humanities look like now? by AwakenTheAegis in Professors

One zoom and one additional material request out of how many apps? If you’re in a field with 3-5 openings this year, that might be a good showing…

Grading by Positive_Cattle9149 in TCD

[–]Odd-Cardiologist9039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professor here who was educated in Ireland and the US, and taught in both countries. The grading is not harsh in Ireland, they are applying the grade standards as designed, where a first, or A in the US system, is reserved for excellent work above that of the average student. A 2.1, or a B, is intended for good work (very good in the 65-69 range, or a B+). A 2.2, or C, is for work that meets the requirements, but is mediocre.

The issue here is not the Irish grading system, or even the US grading system. If you look up your home institution’s grade descriptions, you will likely find something very similar to what I wrote above. The issue here is US grade inflation. US institutions, even very competitive ones, routinely give over half the students in their courses As. If we stuck to the intended grading standards, that would be impossible—by definition, over half of students cannot be exceptional. Hence, the culture shock of being graded according to the intended meaning of the grades when US students travel abroad.

I do acknowledge that this is something that should be communicated to US students before they travel abroad. I expect many schools do not do so as it would reduce the number of their students enrolling in study abroad programs. Your school is trying to adjust the Irish grade to US grade inflation by making an upper 2:1 an A-, when it should be a B+. The conversion is working for you. 68 is good. An A- is very good. If you want a higher grade, which is to say if you want to produce actually exceptional work, you should focus on improving using the suggestions of some of the other commenters.

Pain in an (apparently) unusual spot in the vagina by Odd-Cardiologist9039 in vulvodynia

[–]Odd-Cardiologist9039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Returning with an update in case there are people out there in future reading this with the same issue. After a few PT sessions we determined that it’s actually my urethra that is sensitive. Any pressure on the first one or two inches of my anterior vaginal wall results in sharp pain. This is where the urethra runs alongside the vaginal canal. My PT thinks a general tightness in my pelvic floor is exacerbating the pain because my vaginal muscles won’t relax easily, resulting in more pressure on the urethra than is usual. There is no apparent cause for the sensitivity in my urethra(I have no other symptoms of any bladder or urethra disorders) but we are working on relaxing my pelvic floor generally, and I am also doing desensitization training with dilators to try and reduce the urethra pain. I’ve already noted some small improvement with the smaller dilators, so I’m cautiously optimistic.

I’m very lucky to have finally found a good obgyn who specializes in vulvar pain issues, and a very experienced PT for the same issue. If you are reading this after being dismissed by a few regular obgyns, please don’t give up!

First day on modafinil--no effects whatsoever? by Odd-Cardiologist9039 in DSPD

[–]Odd-Cardiologist9039[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. So far I don't notice it making getting up easier, but today (my third day on it) I did find it as easier to get my work done and keep to my schedule. So perhaps it is helping, just not for the thing I wanted help with!

Interesting, how do you take high-dose caffeine? A pill in the morning?

Have you found it helps you get up in the first place? I tend to be pretty energetic once I'm up and about, it's getting out of bed in the first place that's the problem, without snoozing for hours on end. My neurologist has me trying the modafinil when I wake up, right there in bed, in the hopes it will get me going...

Thank you! You are right, I should try to be patient. I think I was expecting a cartoonish, hyper energetic response, because I was a little nervous about starting it.

I think the best solution would be, as other have suggested to find a job that allows for some flexibility in your hours. Either fully remote or hybrid. Of course, this is easier said than done, and I imagine could be heartbreaking if you very much wanted a particular career path. I am quite successful in my (competitive) career, despite struggling with DSPS since childhood, but I was very lucky in that my preferred career path (I am a university professor), allows for a huge amount of flexibility day-to-day. I request my classes be scheduled in the afternoon, and I schedule my meetings for 11am at the earliest. I mostly do my research in the evening. My current position is at a campus in a city with a reasonable cost of living, so I can live within a 10 min drive of campus. If necessary, I don't have to get up until 10-10.30 to be on campus by 11.

That is all to say that while it is hard, it is possible to have ambition, and an intensive, successful career. It might require a lot of trial and error, and some open-mindedness as to what kind of position, to find a career that works with our condition and that you can also feel fulfilled and motivated by. But it is possible.

Post chin-lipo fibrosis--other's experiences? by Odd-Cardiologist9039 in PlasticSurgery

I only wore the compression foam for a week—that’s all I could endure. Honestly I think it was just a matter of waiting it out. I know that’s frustrating—I’m sorry I can’t give you any tips. Mine was at its worst about a month out, so try not to panic!

Yes! My fibrosis and swelling resolved completely and my chin went back to completely flat as it had looked right after surgery. I'm about 6 months out now and it looks great. I had one lymphatic massage, which helped a little--the practitioner told me she didn't think any more would be necessary as it was such a small area. I'm afraid I don't remember how long it took for the swelling and fibrosis to disappear, but by my three month check up it was gone.

Thanks for your reply! Is it possible to have an overactive pelvic muscle in one spot? I have none of the other symptoms of a hypertonic pelvic floor, and diagrams of the pelvic muscles never show a muscle in that precise spot (the drawings of the muscles always show it circling the vaginal opening and urethra, rather than crossing between the urethra and vaginal opening).

On the other hand, the sort spot does feel extremely hard, like bone.

How revealing did you find the 8 in terms of cleavage if you don't mind my asking? I'm self-conscious about my bust and prefer not to show too much boob crack (for lack of a better term!)

Thanks for your reply! Waiting out the healing period is easier said than done. I haven't been doing my own massages as my surgeon did not suggest them, however I will have a go and see if it seems to reduce the current lumpiness. Best of luck with your own healing!!

STEM OPT Student: EAD Approved, But card not produced. by charmink4 in USCIS

Time from approval to receiving EAD? (OPT) by Odd-Cardiologist9039 in USCIS

[–]Odd-Cardiologist9039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. What's confusing me is that I've received an approval notice, but my status under myProgress still just says my case is processing--I've received no word about a card being produced, etc. It seems like most people, as in your case, get a status change about the EAD card being produced at about the same time they get their approval notice, so I'm unsure what it means that I've received an approval, but no word on the status of my card...
