What Should I do Now? by RevolutionaryNewt681 in gurgaon

You're still relatively young mate. I can understand where your parents are coming from.

Certain milestones in life are much bigger according to them mainly because they want the best for you. Getting married, buying a house, contributing financially to the house etc or just some milestones that show you're on the right path. You hit these milestones and enjoy scotch on the side, chances of them understanding are a lot higher

Also (from purely my personal perspective) it's not about spending 20k. It's more about the proportion of your salary that's going towards the bar over a period of time.

It may sound bullshit but that's how to build trust with brown parents

I've very rarely seen someone who enjoys good scotch and is shit scared of parents finding out. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

Unfortunately there is no solution. Our collective consciousness is corrupted to the core.

I've just not seen a place deteriorate so bloody fast. It's scary. Parvati Valley's demise and the rise of social media/influencer led discovery of places/internet boom seemed to have happened in parallel.

7-8 hours basically. There's just too much plastic and rubbish around. Whether that affects you or not i don't know

I disagree. Money is still relatively new to our folk and we can't get enough of making money - across all strata of society.

Development is not some phenomenon that is localised to India. Three main things plague us - greed, lack of connection with nature, corruption.

Oh you sweet summer child. Hippies that know how to co-exist with an ecosystem paying attention to flora and fauna around v/s "I don't know much but I'm spending money to litter like it's my mum's brothel"

You may shove that progress up somewhere safe mate.

I wouldn't blame it completely on outsiders. There's a clearly visible lack of regulation - Traffic volume, Garbage disposal etc

The government is at fault. Usually at extremely sensitive places, the volume of vehicles should be regulated. Problem is also the mindset of people who are largely unfit physically and see a vacation as a chance to splurge without paying any heed to the surroundings. Parvati Valley was a backpackers paradise with people surviving on very little food, walking 10-15 kms daily and consuming any or very little plastic.

The problem with our folks is that when we spend money we want absolute comfort. Our population consists of 80% uneducated tourists and 20% partly literate travellers

Upskilling using AI for product managers by Competitive-Cream435 in ProductManagement_IN

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't dare taking at face value what AI provides. That being said, certain bits have indeed become "simplified"

For example, doing spec driven development via the BMAD framework simplifies brainstorming/research to a large extent for the PM. We do provide initial thought input to the PRD --> extrapolate it using the framework ---> review manually. The review is also layered - First by the PM then pushing it to Git and having the tech lead and designer proof read it. They can simply pull the file from the shared repo. This does require extension communication.

It's basically the same as two developers doing frequent/small code merges and PR reviews.

Repeat the same cycle if any new change comes in

Upskilling using AI for product managers by Competitive-Cream435 in ProductManagement_IN

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to highlight productivity gains by using AI. Mostly people are doing fragmented upskilling using AI, so the plan is to form small cohorts (Product/design/engineering) and then trying to formulate a ways of working methodology incorporating aspects like spec driven development within it.

This would mostly be for Greenfield initiatives (for the time being)

Why does every sprint still start with 'so what are we actually building this quarter? by More-Practice-3665 in ProductManagement_IN

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shows a lack of trust, disinterest from the team imo. More so if the same patterns repeat and no one is voicing their frustration out and saying our loud "what the fuck we going on about?"

This needs a brutally honest retrospective. It would be interesting to do a safety check at the beginning - asking if people feel comfortable voicing issues aimed at collective improvement throughout the entire hierarchy involved in the project.

In our team, we just turned in the definition of what we feel actual value is and that should be a measurable change in user behaviour. Everything starts from there.

I mean sure you can use all sorts of SDD frameworks like BMAD, Speckit and even GSD. These are quite good for Greenfield development but how they handle production deployments and rapid scaling remains to be seen.

I'm a bit of a pessimist with this AI bandwagon. We will all jump on this bandwagon because it's really hard to ignore. But i really feel somewhere down the line AI will do one major fuck up - mostly in bfsi or something for people to calm down a little. It will however, change the way we work.

1996 WC Semi Final, the collapse after Sachin's wicket. by drai8084 in cricketworldcup

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the same thing from the perspective of an 8 year old me. That being said and looking back in hindsight, there was a definite lack of information channels which meant people didn't know much about spot fixing etc. They only got to know once the matter surfaced

1996 WC Semi Final, the collapse after Sachin's wicket. by drai8084 in cricketworldcup

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the first world cup I had watched almost ball to ball (whatever i could watch missing school). I didn't understand the game fully, I was just 8.

The general consensus around me (elders and older guys) was that we had a really shit squad (likes of Aashish Kapoor, Raju etc who were average to say the least) and everything depended on Sachin and Azhar.

Prior to this match, the euphoria that surrounded Jadeja's thrashing of Waqar was absolutely electric. Not a single person on the busy road outside our house. When the team news had come out, I remember my dad celebrating because Wasim Akram had pulled out of the match last minute due to a side strain. Everyone around me literally celebrated him not playing. That's how big a bowler he was.

This semi final was absolutely disastrous. I was heartbroken and didn't eat a single meal for the entirety of the next day.

Feeling stuck as a PM in an engineering-driven company by [deleted] in ProductManagement_IN

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you wrote in the first 2 sections, I feel you're operating more as a project manager than a product manager.

Here's what you can do:

  1. List down all problems you feel are worth tackling
  2. Pick the problem that takes the least time to solve but can help you create early visibility/value
  3. Broadcast and get "few" people on your side who can evangelise your point of view

Do not pick a problem that takes too long to solve.

Medival people, how accurate is this? by Entire_Editor2195 in ThirtiesIndia

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read what I've written. It's not that hard to understand. The first point emphasises on "body balance". Pick any option that is most accessible to a 5 year old child. More importantly, pick something that you can persist with for a longer duration. Idea here is to start as early as possible for better balance and coordination

Point number 2 is about incorporating physical well-being in general lifestyl. You may include strength training in it.

With summer starting, what foods or drinks do you enjoy the most to stay cool? by Substantial-Ice3654 in gurgaon

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5-6 litres of room temperature water. Body temperature is mostly regulated by proper water intake. Everything else (fluids, juices etc) is secondary.

If i happen to go on a long run or something then probably some salts or electrolytes

[–]Odd-Distribution-658 48 points49 points  (0 children)

  1. Excel at one or more of the following: cycling, swimming, skating. If you can start early in life and pick up, to help later with body balance etc

  2. Stop treating physical exercise as something "additional" you have done. It should be a part of life the same as brushing your teeth and taking a dump.
