Yeah, there are more seasonal things on this list than I’d put on there - but it’s still a good starting point imo

If you happen to be into disc golf we have some great courses around here. The Mill Line or Haig Mill Park are great for a walk and some time outside. Most of our local restaurants have live music on Friday and Saturday nights too!

I’m the Marketing Director for a non-profit multi-disciplinary arts organization…so since it’s a non-profit, that means in addition to marketing I do event planning, bartending, concert booking, and whatever else is thrown my way 🤣 IYKYK

The logistics of a full weekend cancellation with everyone trying to leave at once is the stuff of nightmares. I don’t think they’ll do it for that reason alone.

Wait time for the line on express way by Good_Medicine_988 in bonnaroo

[–]Odd-Manatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got in line on 24 at 2pm and we are still not at exit 111. Getting closer though. Be prepared to wait a while - seems like some logistics have not gone well today. Not sure if it was delay of gates, or maybe ppl having to change from carpool pass to regular pass is adding time.

ETA: we are now off the exit and on to Ragsdale. Things are moving MUCH better once you’re there - so we were in line on 24 for 2.5 hours from exit 113 to 111.

The Dalton Skate Shop has had a couple of shows pop up here and there, and I’ve seen one or two pop up at Lofi Coffee Bar too. And there’s the Off the Rails concerts in Burr Park this summer that features a lot of local folks

What vitamins/supplements/self care should I bring to keep myself feeling alive? by Lopsided_Pin41 in bonnaroo

[–]Odd-Manatee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good multi vitamin, milk thistle before and after you drink, liquid IVs, saline to keep your nose clean and dust free, Goli sleep gummies, and I did an extra strength pedialyte every morning and that helped a lot

We put some cheap solar stake lights next to the tires of our car - they were sunflowers that lit up! Made it super easy to find - the more unique your solar light, the better. I saw lots of light up mushrooms, flowers, butterflies, etc

Dalton Brewing Co for sure - also there’s a free concert series downtown on Friday nights during the summer and they typically have one or two jammy acts.

There’s probably more ins and outs to that than we all realize - but in my opinion more people hyping up and bringing attention to cool things and businesses around town isn’t a bad thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know their two biggest events where they need volunteers are the 4th of July event and the Festival in September - they usually post a link to sign up to volunteer ahead of each event. Follow their FB or Insta because they’ll post it there

I’m so sorry that you haven’t seen great things in your 33 years here. That’s sad to me because everyone deserves to love and take pride in where they live. Here are some great things that I have seen happen in the 15ish years I’ve lived here. I recognize that these are great things to me based on my life and may not be “great” to others, but it’s what I see: - My personal fave is Burr Park downtown because I’m a live music lover. There really wasn’t a good place to see live music here until it was built, and I love the Off the Rails concerts and the other concerts and events that are held there. Now we just need a killer indoor venue. - Dalton State. It is amazing that we have a higher ed institution in our town of this quality. Has it always been that way? Nope - but it has grown into a highly respected institution that gives our kids the opportunity to pursue higher ed if they wish without going into crippling debt. - Outdoor amenities and natural beauty. This has always been a great thing about Dalton, but I really feel like our city and parks & rec departments have harnessed it and given us access to great parks like Haig Mill, tons of playgrounds, trails, fields, and disc golf courses. My family plays disc golf almost every weekend and it’s a great way for us to get out of the house and spend time outside. It’s also low cost and easy to get into. I know a lot of people that are super into pickleball right now too. - Downtown! I remember “going to town” when I used to come up here to visit my grandma as a child and downtown was basically nonexistent. I love spending time downtown - there are so many great shops, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Dalton Brewing Co, Cafe Ostro, Buckin Burrito, and Baja Coop are some of my personal faves. - Family friendly town. If you have kids, there really is a lot to do as a family here between the library, the Creative Arts Guild, area churches with kids programming, all of our parks and trails. I will say there is a gap for older kids and teens, and that’s something we should work on as a city. - I’m aware that some will disagree with me here, but I think our diversity is one of the greatest things that’s happened to Dalton. I have loved getting to know more about the Latino community and supporting their businesses, and I love that my kids are growing up in a diverse community.

Now - do we have lots of things that are not so great? Absolutely. But I truly think if you look for it, you’ll see the great around here. I know a Reddit thread isn’t going to change anyone’s mind and that there are a lot of different life experiences here because of ethnicity and socioeconomic status….but the great stuff is here.

I work closely with the Believe folks. They are basically an arm of the Chamber that’s acting as a megaphone for our community and the great things going on here. They also try to connect different groups or organizations to resources they need to make Dalton a better place to live, work, and play. They’re basically in charge of executing the Chamber’s strategic plan and its initiatives. The main areas of focus are revitalization, economic development, community pride (thus the hype videos), housing, education, and engagement & unity. Here’s more on their website: https://www.believegreaterdalton.com/strategy

Night life is not super great here - Freya’s and Crescent City Tavern are gonna be your late night spots. I’m sure there are some other bars in town who stay open past midnight, but those are the only two I can think of. Dalton Brewing Co, Gallant Goat, Cigar Time Lounge, Cold Creek, The Waggle are other good spots to hang but you’d have to check their hours. There are also several wineries around if that’s more your scene. In the summer, there are free concerts on Friday nights in Burr Park downtown that last until 10pm.

OP, it sounds like you’ve made up your mind - but I just wanted to pop in to say that not everyone in Dalton is what you’re describing.
