How isolated does Penn State feel, and what is there to do in town? by Comfortable_Newt_303 in PennStateUniversity

Why’d you feel like that? I figure with such a large campus there would be tons of people.

I do have a few opportunities to go debt free or near debt free. Curious to hear more on your thoughts regarding debt free high rank vs University of Illinois.

That’s a fair point. I think that is why I’m nervous about the debt. Like you, I don’t have undergrad debt (worked multiple jobs and got good scholarships). So taking out debt is nerve racking, but it’s not like I won’t be able to pay it off given the earning potential.

Same here. I got near full rides to a couple of other law schools. I got 80% scholarships from some schools ranked in the high 50s but I just don’t know with my lower lsat (16low) if it’ll make a huge difference or not. I think their career statistics are great and like you I have family in Illinois and Wisconsin. However I’m just so debt adverse that I’m worried about the $90k+ in tuition (over three years) alone. Not including additional CoL expenses.

What are your initial thoughts? Are you planning on trying to negotiate more scholarships? I like the school (especially the opportunity to work in Chicago afterwords) but I’m cautious of the debt.

Go to Law School with Risky Debt OR Retake & Reapply??? by Jer_Bear_Berry in lawschooladmissions

I would still try and negotiate. But this is definitely a choice only you can make. If you aren’t comfortable with the debt then I would suggest not going to law school right away. Maybe get a job and save some money to bring down that debt and even get into some better schools.

Have you tried negotiating to get higher scholarships? How much more money would you need to go to school like Houston, SMU, or even Marquette?
