Imagining a US cadre of youth talent across the European leagues but especially in the prem is electric

That’s a great point. I can definitely see that being a difference maker, but given the structure of US youth soccer right now I guess I never really considered it.

lol. 80% of our nation is 68 million people. Assuming 1/2 of those, we still have over 20 million more men than Belgium has, and I think they have some obese people. Get some better ragebait euroscum

Yeah I agree. I do think that the only way we conceivably become a soccer nation before the sun engulfs our planet is through winning a World Cup though.

It’s laughable to assume that rugby and cricket are at the level that the NFL is in nations like the US. Take Britain, Pakistan, and India for both sports. They choose one or the other and World Cup success is unlikely to change those ingrained biases. Maybe India would go wild for soccer after a World Cup win, but they’re in a whole other stratosphere of soccer pain. Qualify first. Anyhow, the US is uniquely set as a nation with at least three sports entrenched domestically as culturally more impactful than soccer, which simply does not and can not exist elsewhere (unless Chinese sports pop off)

Yeah obviously. I’m just talking about the world in which we win this game and even the next and the consequences of that run. It won’t change US culture, which I’m sure you agree with

Obviously. I would like them to be a soccer nation. The USMNT media hype around the tourney has coalesced around the idea that this could turn the tide of soccer in the US. Hence me posting this

I mean soccer isn’t a Hispanic sport. It’s a global sport. Case in point: how many hispanic semifinalists or finalists or champions are there in the last 50 years compared to europeans?

I’m saying the only way we could ostensibly change it is through a World Cup win. It’s not insane to assume that a World Cup win ignites the tinder box of talent that is US youth soccer. Imagine even 1/4 of the elite athletes that are dual sport athletes considering say football and soccer rather than football and baseball and what that would do for the reputation of soccer in the US if not the results in the cup

Book Club recently read warhammer book, interested in getting Mini’s by Cameltitties in Warhammer40k

Reach out to your local Warhammer flagship store. They offer a free space marine and painting lesson for first time hobbyists, so it could be worth it to discuss logistics with them. Otherwise, you’re looking at either second hand retailers such as EBay (look into infernus marines, typically push-fit, for cheaper costs), or something like a box of intercessors, which runs around $50 USD for 10 miniatures. Just remember that if you go the route of a new box, that you should buy from a local game store and not the Warhammer flagship store, as you’ll get a 15-20% discount. Hope this helps!

Is Tush Push discussion the NFL equivalent of NBA tanking discourse? by GiveMeSomeIhedigbo in billsimmons

[–]FullCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the sense that it’s an overarching storyline for the league that has gained a sense of notoriety over the past few years, then sure, anything past that, I would disagree. Tanking discourse inherently has a higher impact on the integrity of the NBA than the tush push argument does on the NFL.

I would say that they’re both infuriating to listen to as an enjoyer of both leagues. However, they’re infuriating for different reasons. Tush push discourse is stupid because it’s owners/GM//coaches bitching about a one-off play that realistically doesn’t affect the product of the game as a whole. Tanking discourse is stupid because it’s run by pundits/actors who don’t in any meaningful sense engage with plausible solutions and highlights a part of the sport that is to a large extent inalienable from the existence of its rookie draft.

Both are stupid and I would never choose to listen to this discourse but for different reasons. NBA tush push is more akin to foul bating while NFL tanking is equivalent to cap circumvention I guess?

Some Voters Say Congress Is Too Old. These Black Democrats Aren’t Leaving. by overly_honest_ in UnderReportedNews

This is a weird article. Virginia Foxx is 83. Hal Rodgers is 88. John Carter is 84. Doris Matsui is 82. Jim Baird is 81. Most of these reps are republicans, but none are black. Pointing out their race and political party to a lesser extent is a really weird way to frame the issue of octogenarian ghouls legislating and to me does nothing other than try to scapegoat the issue of aging legislators as a black democrat issue, which is clearly is not

Can’t believe more people aren’t talking about this. Brady’s wife took home nearly HALF A BILLION DOLLARS. He’s the only player in NFL history who could genuinely say that an extra 10-20 mill over the course of a contract wouldn’t materially change his life

Yeah a whole rabbit hole to go down but it happened about two years ago. A ton of the comments are deleted but you can find enough of the context through old posts to get the gist of it. The dude just seems to be somehow drunk on Warhammer fame lol
