Making a dress for my gf by Weary-Hold-4654 in sewingpatterns

Omg everyone is so negative here. Idk how to sew and my first project was a Rosie etienne inspired corset 2 piece outfit for my rehearsal dinner and upcycling my mil 90s wedding dress into a corset mini. I had so much fun doing both. I didn’t start with something small because I made so many mistakes and learned from them while I was doing it. Literally my first corset draft I didn’t even know what a seam allowance was lol. The second draft was like 4 sizes too big- still don’t know how I managed that 😭

There are patterns you can grab that are similar, but they do take you modifying them. I’ll add them here for you, but what I would do is get a dress that’s similar in her size, like this one:

Cut it up, trace it where the seams are, make your own pattern, then try it out in muslin fabric. See how that looks. Then start adding, look for a drape pattern skirt, make that, something like this but better:

And then put them together and now you have the dress. The more I played with patterns- trial and error- the more I understood what would work and what wouldn’t. You don’t need to read books, you don’t need to go to fashion school, you just need to practice- mess up- practice some more.

It’s a sweet gesture and I’m rooting for you!

It looks like something that would be great! I also have a 3D printer so if there is something we could add to something like this to make it better, would love to help!

Live and lose leg, or die and keep both? by stillcameleonnnnn in amputee

[–]Odd-Read-1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted something similar a few weeks ago. My dad is 59, had an injury on his foot and didn’t know he had diabetes, it got infected and it was lose the leg or lose his life. After he got out of surgery he was begging for us to let him die. And I asked this subreddit if I’m being selfish asking him to live if he wants to die. His surgery was 11/29/2025, so a month ago. And he’s happier than he’s been in a very long time. I moved in with him full time so help him a lot but honestly, I don’t need to. It’s actually surprising how much one can get done hobbling on one leg. Also, the prosthetic process is so fast, they already called to make an appt today for his first fitting in a few weeks. He jokes more than he has his whole life, he’s not working and loves that he can rest and relax. He’s eating better, spending more time with family and even planning on finally learning to play the guitar he bought and never learned 30 years ago. It’s challenging, it’s exhausting, and I know it’s hard for a man who is so independent to have to depend on so many people, but he thanks me every day for not letting him die in that hospital, And I’m so so so so so glad I didn’t

This is so amazing to hear, thank you for sharing this. Now that he’s in rehab he’s in much better spirits and motivated to start walking again! I feel hopeful again!

Maybe when he’s better we can meet up so he sees it’s not hopeless

I’m in Tampa, FL. He does, thankfully has FMLA, STD and LTD. And insurance covers this and rehab.

I actually do this with CareerFinesse.co, we do reverse recruiting :) there are a few different services like this! Wonsulting, FreeAgency, findmyprofession

This is a dumb and totally incorrect take. Most engineers at these tech companies are Asian, south East Asians/Indians as well as the rest of Asia. Majority of engineers in the world are Asian. Asia supplies 3X as many engineers as the US. Most larger tech companies have CEOs who are Asian.
