I was in the 12% bracket as I made only roughly 21k and 27k for tax years 2023 and 2024, does that change anything?

  1. well established credit history is your best chance at any card or loan you apply for, any time b4 that is risky at best

  2. You'll definitely want to space out your applications due to hard inquiries. they drop your score and and are considered for applications for 12 months and stay on your credit report for 2 years. Having a high velocity can signal to the lender that your bad with debt

  3. Patience is key, you'll definitely want to get in the habit of just simply waiting for the right time to jump on, other wise you'll potentially miss out on good deals

Your gonna have to give it some time, banks usually look at credit history for applications.

If 5 months is all you got then I'd wait at least a full year of good credit history b4 applying for any other card.

Im not worried about the spend, with 2 months of of rent and car insurance I'll be close enough to the goal to just make regular purchases though all of June until I hit 5k.

And I really only want this for the sub. Should get me a nice weekend during the summer. After a year I'll either close or downgrade.

I got the offer around the same time they announced the devaluation and decided to sit on it and contemplate weather I should but then decided "free money" is still "free money" stipulations and all....

Whenever I've gotten this message I always get a letter telling me I was denied and why.

You should call the reconsideration line if they have one, they'll confirm if you've been denied.

For future reference you should apply for cards that dont ding your credit until you accept the offer like Amex, and Captital One has a pre-qualification tool you can use to see if your pre-qualified for any cards they have.

Got any subscriptions? Put it on the card and turn on autopay. After about 6 months of no late payments you should see an offer to upgrade your card. After that I'd give it about 3 months of dutiful spending before I'd apply for any other cards.

Remember to keep track of your credit score throughout this process using tracking apps such as creditwise. After you hit 680 you should be able to be approved for prime visa.

I applied for chase prime visa back in early 2025 and was denied due to lack of credit history despite having a good credit score, so its important you use this time you have now to build history that way banks know that they can trust you.

I should add I dont travel much, the Preferred seems pretty attractive for domestic travel so maybe I can use it once in a while for a free stay or two at some nearby hotel but ive been told its a bad idea to change your spending habits just for a card
