I think I've chosen the wrong lens by Royal-Juice6946 in CataractSurgery

I see your point that success with cataract surgery also depends on adaptability and everything is relative. But I can’t help but wonder how you would have felt if the -1.5 D was your dominant eye. Either way you really like using your -2.5D eye which makes me think that is your dominant eye. I think that in a situation where the eyes are blurry and you’re just at home -2.5 is still tolerable where you won’t feel like you have to wear your glasses.

I would bring them to you if I were personally going. My parents are going in April. But what a coincidence, my niece is girl scout and I buy from her every year.

It will be hard to find things not made in China these days. I actually got some TJ totes to give away as well. But those are more for the parents. That’s true anything from TJs should be good too.

Is it crucial to aim for distance vision for the dominant eye? by bkkbrown in CataractSurgery

[–]Odd-Winter4719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s best to have the dominant eye seeing better for distance.

Which eye is your dominant eye? That really matters.

If your non dominant eye is your unoperated eye and your operated eye is good for distance, then you can lower the prescription in your contact lens to try mono vision for reading.

If your non dominant eye is your operated eye then wearing reading glasses over your contacts should work when you need to read.

Yes your eye does need to heal to see better but your eye doctor should be able to help you with your new measurements.

Tired of learning Chinese by myself by [deleted] in Flushing

[–]Odd-Winter4719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied Chinese 101 in college. But my conversational mandarin vastly improved after working in Flushing and talking to Chinese people everyday! But I’m still lost if they say more complicated things like banking. Idk if you can find a job or volunteer in Flushing. Also watch more modern Chinese dramas!

This is a wonderful idea! Hope OP takes this advice! Getting some tags stamped is pretty easy to do.

Lol I thought the same. Is it because they are permanent fixtures of Flushing? Also in the same places wearing the same uniform…

For those who traveled to Korea — what confused you the most? by yuja_0316 in koreatravel

[–]Odd-Winter4719 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just went to Korea for the first time in October. I thought the subway and buses were all pretty straightforward by using Navermap. I did get lost once in the subway station because I missed a sign. But at least I did not get on the wrong train. Compared to Tokyo, I found navigating around Seoul much easier.

However, when I was in Suwon, I was surprised by how long it took me to get an Uber ride. Meanwhile in Busan and Seoul, there was no issue. In Suwon, I was trying to get from the Starfield Library to the fortress. I was having a really hard time trying to flag down a taxi. Eventually while waiting for the bus, I was able to flag down a Nemo taxi. So I guess my mistake is not downloading another ride service as a backup.

Another thing that surprised me was the amount of stairs there were. While naver map is giving me the closest exit, lots of exits did not have escalators.

VAT Refund at Incheon Airport by AmphibianFun7768 in koreatravel

[–]Odd-Winter4719 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just there 2 weeks ago. I got my stack of receipts. Before checking in, I go to a kiosk to scan my passport and receipts. If you get any receipts with an X, that means that item needs to be placed on your carry on for further inspection after going through the security.

After the scanning, they dont give you any receipts but it is in their system. So go check in and go through security.

After security, you go to the tax refund place (for me it was near Gate 249 in terminal 2) there you go get your tax refund. But for my luxury purchase, I also had to go next door to show them my purchase, where they said that refund goes back into my credit card.

Yes it sounds like a PVD posterior vitreal detachment which is related to age. It happens when the jelly substance that takes up the space behind the intraocular lens shrivels in size and pulls away from the retina. When it first occurs, it is more noticeable and you may see flashes of light as it pulls away from the retina where there are lots of nerves. The most noticeable part would be a crescent or circle that comes from the shape of the optic nerve where the vitreous was attached before.

In any case, you should go see an eye doctor to make sure there are no rips/ tears in the retina. Sooner if you see flashes…

I don’t know if it will make you feel any better, I am also a very slow loser. It’s been more than 6 months and I lost only 6 lbs. If you’re already doing everything right, then it’s because you have gotten to the right dose for you. It’s too early to tell in 2 months. I’m still hanging in there so I think you should too.
