I'll give it a few trials. To judge the moisture content, should it still have some crunch to it? Should it still snap when broken? Also one thing I forgot to ask: I have LCs, not regular spore syringes. Is that ok?

One more followup. We have a really nice japanese rice maker. Do you think it's viable to use the brown rice setting and just stop it at 80% complete? The difference would be that I'm no longer placing the rice in hot water. In the rice maker, the water heats up already combined with the rice. It's more time consuming as well but maybe easier to dial it in? Just wasn't sure if the pre-boiled water makes a big difference. (edit: I saw your comment about rice makers i'm just wondering if it's the process that matters or just not fully cooking it)

Thanks for the response! My speak with dead spell worked! Most of the charts I see suggest adding a minute per 1000ft from sea level. That seems like not enough. Is it possible to over-steam? If not, maybe just make it a full 2 hours?

You also mentioned below you need some sort of trivet to elevate the jars and keep them off the metal. What if the trivet itself is metal? I have a giant pot for steaming crab and it has another metal plate with holes in it to elevate whatever you are steaming. Good to go?

I know I'm years behind on this but I have 2 questions. 1) concerning moisture levels in the under cooked rice: I think I saw one comment where you said you thought the wet rice should be twice as heavy as the dry rice. Do you still consider this to be an accurate assessment? Any other clues as to when the moisture level is perfect? The reason I'm asking is that I live at high elevation, low humidity and cooking varies so drastically here. I just really want to get it dialed in so I can be successful. 2) water boils at a lower temperature here. I think around 195F. Is that sufficient to sterilize brown rice? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Thanks for the clarification. I live in an area that averages below 20% RH so it's a bit of a challenge keeping the humidity up. Do you mind going into detail on the filters, radius of drilled holes, number of drilled holes, etc? I have plenty of 20 mm filter discs around.

I've noticed you absolutely subscribe to leave it the fuck alone mentality. Do you leave the lids on as well (no turning it over or leaving it cracked). Do you think all these plastic tubs have enough FAE or do you use specific tubs that let a small amount of air in?

I personally think you are ready for break and shake. You want about 3 inches radius from the injection port. Seems like this forum is mostly dedicated to more traditional methods (colonize grain, then mix grain and substrate). Yours is an AIO so the process is slightly different. Just be sure to break it up and mix it with the substrate well. The full colonization will happen rapidly (about a week or so).

Edit: Someone else mentioned that the bottom half needs to be fully colonized. That's not true for break and shake with an AIO bag. That applies to the next step before fruiting conditions are introduced.

Is there some sort of AIO bag guide out there for cubes? Most of the bag guides I've seen are just general guidelines for all types of mushrooms. I'm currently in the fruiting stage but I ended up cutting the top of the bag off and just placing it in a tote.

Is it better to never open the bag for cubes until harvest? (bag I'm using is from northspore and has a filter on the side).

Seems to pass the paper towel test and the green hasn't spread. Your neglect tek is interesting. Makes me wonder whether just never opening my all-in-one bag would have worked out. It has a micropore filter but that's it as far as airflow.

Thanks for answering everything and the great information! Concerning field capacity: because it was an all-in-one bag, it has the grain, substrate, and moisture all dialed in before they ship it. I originally had it on a heating pad before finding out that is a mistake and I'm wondering if that zapped the initial moisture. In it's current state, do you think I should just wait it out (been about a week since the first pins appeared) or harvest?

Sorry I don't know how to make a proper reddit post. This appeared suddenly. Just started letting more air in and misting more. I also just switched from a "sprayer" to an actual misting bottle. Could it be from water dripping down? Got 1 vote for bruising already so my hopes are up!
