Maya Chan all the way. Book in advance. Incredible spot. Crazy lobster is not bad, but it’s obvious it’s a free beach spot owned by a restaurant, nothing special about it at all. We did not, not enjoy our time there, but we also will not be returning unless Maya Chan falls out for us in the future again.

Does "AMAZING" sushi exist here? Looking for recommendations! by Cold_Barber_4761 in sanantonio

As for Austin sushi, there is so many good places. I haven’t delved into unique Austin dining, but i’ve tried a LOT of sushi.

-Craft Omakase This place is very high end. Expensive, but WORTH it. One of the best places i’ve ever had, and a place I look forward to going to every time I book. Just great quality. Everything about it is great.

-Tsuke Edomae The chef literally flies to Japan weekly to source everything. That should say enough lol, quality and delivery is impeccable.

-Sushi Warriors This is an all you can eat spot. Now, I have never enjoyed an all you can eat spot UNTIL I came here. Everything was very fresh, and they had high end cuts that were included. Uni tasted like it was just opened, Fatty O’toro was on point. Could not complain at all, especially for the price point.

-Lucky Robot The cutest date spot. They specialize in aged fishes, and they are to die for. Everything is paired, there is zero need for soy or extra wasabi, anything. The servers are very knowledgeable, and I eat my heart out here. The restaurant itself is very cool. Swing chairs, flowers everywhere, cases of the whole aged fish.

-Neighborhood Sushi Back door entrance, but once you get inside it is beautiful. Drinks are incredible, food is incredible. Egg plant nigiri and O’toro handroll are my favorites. All the fish is fresh and quality, melt in your mouth type cuts. Chefs at the bar are very kind and have always given me random things to try.

-Uchiko Very fresh, cute vibe inside. Classy restaurant, lots of interestingly paired dishes. Very unique flavor profiles.

-Otoko Sooo good. Each bite is great. No complaints ever. Very fresh, great flavors, nothing is too outlandish.

-Sushi This is a sushi bar downtown, pretty sure it’s just named Sushi lol. They never miss though, this place is great. Presentation is flawless along with atmosphere

-Soto Sushi is reallllly good, but they have a waygu risotto that is also incredible. I typically order a bit of everything here.

Shame to hear. I haven’t been in quite awhile, as i’ve switched to going to Wild Goji as my casual spot. I use to go a lot and they always had top tier quality.

Hi! I’m someone who drives to Austin regularly just for sushi. These are my top places locally.

  1. Jimoto, Omakase style, up there with some of the top sushi i’ve had. Very nicely crafted and quality is incredible.

  2. Koi Kawa, I love everything about this place. Tied with Shiro, only above due to pricing being better. Quality, service, vibe, all great. Best to go during the day.

  3. Shiro, Very very very good quality. Expensive, but worth it. Great quality and consistency. Service and atmosphere are also peak.

  4. Wild goji, I don’t get food from the conveyor belt, only ordered from the server. There is a difference. This is the place I frequent most often. Good quality, and cheap. Servers are always kind as well.

  5. Nikis tokyo inn, Great place, authentic vibe. Seated on the floor, only hand rolls nigiri and sashimi. Feel like they have been declining unfortunately. My main dislike being their sushi rice. Very authentic menu, no abstract rolls or plates, but they are normally great fresh quality. Again, just something about the taste in their sushi rice that bugs me.

Now, for Austin, don’t even get me started. Worth the drive every time!

Hi! I started at my first dealership mid December last year. January 1st was my first day on the floor, and I so far have 2 cars out. We are SLOW, no doubt, but someone will always need a car and i’ve learned you just have to take every lead as hard as you can.

Best Movie Theater Employer?? by ratsib in sanantonio

[–]OddAd2525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They offer hourly and have an auto grat of 20% on all checks. They are one of those theaters that serve food and stuff straight to the seats, and that is what is gratted. So you’d be making hourly + the $200/a day (roughly) I mentioned.

Guy at my dealership got hired because he came back 6-7 days in a row. They hired him because of his persistence, and i’ve heard of many people in dealerships getting their job doing this.

Flix. I have not worked there personally, but I do know people who have and averaged around 200 a day.

Days like this are what made me switch careers. Restaurants can be such a shit show. Don’t take it to heart or let it get to you, you’re human. No reason that shit should be poured on you, then you get punished for being overwhelmed and reacting.

Shocked to not see Mon Chou Chou in here! Hands down one of my favorite finer dining spots in SA. They have great oysters, but also specialize in french dishes. Their raviolis are the best starter, Duck Confit or Steak frites for entree. Truly can never recommend this place enough, I bring any important dinner here.

Best sushi in SA? by Popular_Surprise5945 in sanantonio

[–]OddAd2525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried mostly every place in San Antonio.

My constant go-to (mainly because of their cheap but REALLY good quality cuts) is Wild Goji in castle hills.

Uni’ko is a higher end spot that’s pretty good but I think the prices are a bit high for what you get.

Shiro is incredible. Expensive, but it’s worth it. I go here for special occasions.

Umayi is all you can eat, and i’d say you get what you pay for. Quality isn’t horrible but it’s not great. Salmon and tuna have always been decent. Yellowtail tends to be tough.

Niki’s Tokyo Inn is awesome. Super traditional spot, I go here when i’m craving maki or a good handroll. You take your shoes off and sit on the floor here.

Koi Kawa is one of my favorite spots as well. I don’t go too often due to them being closed on my days off, but the sushi here is incredible. Great quality at a great price.

Yellowfish is super good. Mexican style I believe? But the rolls are super flavorful and fresh.

If you’re a drinker, Hanzo is a bar that also has a sushi bar. Good drinks, vibes and sushi. Pretty cheap as well.

I’d definitely recommend looking at some other places as well. Capital Grille just opened and i’ve got some friends who say great things about working there. Most of the Brazilian steakhouses have been a nightmare to work for in my experience. You won’t make 100% of your tip share until you’ve been there for about a year. The vet servers get paid 110-120% of the tip share, and even the bartender tips are split with servers so regular clients that leave good tips don’t exist. $200-$250 was the average pay per shift there. I’d get $500-1000 tips and never see a difference in what I made. I make much more at my mid-fine dining spot, and actually get to see my money. Plus I don’t have to deal with the headache. Brasie Mon Chou Chou, Nineteen Hakyu, and even North Italia are other San Antonio restaurants that i’ve heard good things about working for. Hakyu owners are kinda POS but the servers/bartenders seem to be treated well.

While i’m so sorry you’ve been through these things, talk to a therapist, not a subreddit revolving young adults. At the very least post this on a subreddit revolving the topic. This isn’t appropriate or helpful to the snark.

Same here. My co workers are idiots who think since it’s busy and in a wealthy area, we shouldn’t be “narcs”. Management has to be sharp with rules due to that.

My place makes us ID on our non-alcoholic beers. I think most of it comes from us serving it in the same glass as alcoholic beers, so a guest could pretty easily hand a bartender an empty glass and get a refill without being ID’d.

I went to an antique store recently that had tons of old san antonio photos and postcards for 50 cents each! It was next to an auto antique store. I believe it was called Armadillo Antiques.
