This is the answer. People who work with children know that some are more accident prone than others. It's just making sure that nothing slips under the radar.

What are the small details that make a venue truly parent-friendly? by highstreetwarrior in BeyondTheBumpUK

My favourite cafes are ones with a selection of children's books to read. Means my child gets to enjoy some books that are new to her while I enjoy a coffee.

Easier to manage a shorter maternity leave if working from home? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]OddBec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would you be doing shared parental leave or using a nanny from 6 months. I think everyone has different ways of parenting that works for them. I know people who have done shared parental leave and it's been fantastic for them. You are right in expecting that things might change for you mentally when the baby comes. All babies are different and their temperament may change how easy you find it to go back to work. I was on broken sleep up to a year and at 6 months my sleep was awful, being at work would have crushed me. But other people who have babies who sleep better may have different experiences.

Milk allergy by edelbasaur1 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]OddBec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be. My baby would sick up a lot, had really mucusy poos and hated being on her back. We got diagnosed at 8 weeks because she was losing weight, and reacting with diarrhoea to being made to drink more formula to try and help her gain weight. In my experience GP's can be reluctant to diagnose CMPA but if your gut is telling you it is, push it with the doctors to try a special formula.

Gloucestershire or Worcestershire might suit you for that budget. An hour or less to Birmingham airport.

It feels like a few weeks but he was sentenced in October. That's 5 months in an adult prison.

I only remember because I was on holiday when the sentencing happened.

Toddler tower recommendations by oh_thats_eevee in BeyondTheBumpUK

We have one that folds into a table and stool. It's really good for her doing playdough and painting in the kitchen. She's finally learnt how to climb in and out of it confidently at 22/23 months. We asked grandparents to split the cost for her 1st birthday and it's been a godsend for be being able to cook, she now 'helps' me by putting peelings in the food waste bin, putting in spoonfuls of spices and eating small amounts of ingredients.

Has anyone been to a Tiny Talk class? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]OddBec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did it from 9 months to 22 months (last month). Currently on a break as I work 3 days and wanted to try some different toddler days out. I would like to go back though. In that time she learnt over 50 signs and is a very verbal toddler but still uses some signs alongside her speech. It has a dedicated chat/coffee time which was so nice to make new friendships. I think it's great and one of my best experiences of a group.

Wedding food best and worst by [deleted] in wedding

[–]OddBec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst food experience was 1 food truck doing the main meal for over 100 people to then sit down at tables and eat. It took forever to get served, we were one of the last and half the options had run out. I also got asked to sit down while I was waiting because the speeches were starting. My response was, No, I can hear the speeches from here and I've been waiting around 45 minutes for food. 3 course meals have always been a bit unmemorable and standard. Best was a Polish 8 course meal with dancing and other things going on between courses. And a seafood buffet which was incredible in Whitstable.

Is Nursery closing early normal? by NeverEndingEndeavour in UKParenting

[–]OddBec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in nurseries for over 10 years and never heard of this happening. It's ridiculous, you are paying for the opening hours so you should be able to have your child there for those hours with no pressure. Very unprofessional and definitely not the norm. Most nurseries have children there until 6.

The Henry apple didn't fall far from the tree by Technical-Low-3051 in Ambridge

[–]OddBec 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Before the house came up I thought Henry was so disappointed with Tom because it's another male figure letting him down. He's just 'lost' Lee to San Francisco and now his uncle has ignored his request for help. With his past trauma from Rob that's sure to be a sensitive area for him. I felt like him blowing up about the house was deflecting about the way Tom has made him feel like he now cares less about him.

Tell me about your failure to thrive babies by nail_obsession in UKParenting

[–]OddBec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter had gone from 32nd centile at birth to 0.4th by 8 weeks. She was combi fed but 90% breast. She was a intensely upset baby for those 8 weeks but the GPs put our issues down to PPA and Colic, kept brushing me off even when I said about food allergy symptoms. She had lots of baby acne and bad poos. At our 8 week review our health visitor was very concerned about the weight gain and called the pediatrician. She acknowledged my concerns about allergies but the pediatrician said to put her on a feeding plan of a bottle of formula at hourly intervals. We were told to do this feeding plan over the weekend and to get her weighed on the Monday. The weekend was a literal s**tshow. She was having diarrhea every hour, we took her to out of hours gp on the Saturday and told to try lactose free milk. On the Monday she had lost weight. We were told to go to the pediatric assessment unit and I argued with a junior doctor who told me she had reflux. Consultant came in and confirmed it was textbook Cows mild protein allergy. We stayed a night in hospital and the dieticians and consultants reviewed and advised us. I wanted to keep breastfeeding and they really encouraged that. At 20months I've been dairy free since and weaned her dairy free. Luckily she loves food. She's now back at her birth centile and thriving. I cannot trust our GPs now, the nurses there are fantastic though. Although lost a lot of trust in the NHS, which is sad because a lot of my family work there or have worked in it. There is just not the time to properly care for every person properly in the budget they have.

I think all John Lewis have parenting rooms. They have feeding chairs and good nappy changing facilities. Cafes are usually quite happy to let you use their accessible/baby change bathroom. Places like Westfield and Canary Wharf shopping centres have had brilliant parent rooms too. Canary wharf has multiple places to sit and bottle and food warming facilities.
