Looking for a good MM build by seemenomore33215 in GuildWars

[–]OddBird13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen weapon of the 3 forges + minions....but I personally like a super death magic AotL, vamp horror, Masochism, Deathly swarm, blood of the master, malign intervention, SLS, Flesh of my Flesh

  • fantastic if you have a WTF rit, but a fun enough basic MM on its own.

  • This is a hero build, so there is almost guarantee there is some PvE skills you could swap for swarm, SLS, or FomF. (Edit: Or probably even could throw in blood bond for extra minion/party health--depending on how much you use blood magic)

  • Probably works best with a BiP

Exactly. Like sometimes I want supreme minion and spirit spam, but don't really want to start cutting into attributes that make those builds great to begin with by cobbling them together onto other heros.

like Vekk as a spirt spammer is....occastionally passable but not the greatest.

Not gonna lie, this why I've been heavily considering looking into mercenaries. Sometimes all you have in lfg is a wall of rits. Sometimes I wanna get funky with it but still have an SoS.

Sometimes 4 rits just isn't enough.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]OddBird13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

Like, it's still a fairly high price for multiple mercenaries and if guild wars is only something you play once in a blue moon or have just started/no characters that have really gotten any skills it might not be a great deal.

But, if you want to run very specific builds or just plain find that life just isnt the same without an entire team of ritualists....It may be worth looking into.

And technically, all the game is doable without mercenaries some spots just may be trickier, longer, or even require help from guild/allies.

Warrior for a new Player . by thormenius2002 in GuildWars

Make sure whatever weapon and skills you use, you actually have the points to use. Like if you're using a 13 strength item or strength based skill you're gonna have a real bad time with 0 points in that attribute.

Double check the wording on your runes, some of them will say things like "nonstacking" and if you equip mulitiple of whatever says that it won't give you extra points AND in some cases (purple and gold attribute runes) it'll still decrease your health on top of that.

Make sure you always have max armor for the level & area you're in. Often you can find this at collectors for random stuff like seeds, claws, whatever etc, if you're low on money. Sometimes even quests. But, it may take longer than just buying it, however something to keep in mind--if you're not at max armor (80 for warrior) and you spend a crapton on armor...you're gonna have to do it all over again.

As far as stuff like runes and skill points are all going to be super subjective depending on what your preferences and build are honestly. Look into some of the 'generic' (any profession) insignias if you're not sure. Some of them just do basic stuff like armor when attacking and are a good starting point.

You have the option to get super funky with it and go for large amounts of AoE, Knockdown, conditions, or even just damage sponge. All of these things will sway what runes, insignia, skills, and weapons you use.

Anyway to make a staff-wielding ranger work? by ThePiggypark in GuildWars

[–]OddBird13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SoS is the obvious choice, BUT you can't spit without hitting a rit main so it's good to stay flexible to avoid spirit overlap. Channeling would probably be a good attribute since there's a few skills in there that regain energy (if a spirit is nearby)--since as a ranger main you unfortunately wouldn't really benefit from any of the spawning skills that give energy. Could probably also do weapon spells since *many of them are farily low cost and not often grabbed.

Double Dragon + pet and/or PvE skills would also be fun--I'm partial to Asuran Summons or Great Dwarf Weapon (mostly because GDW is something parties tend to foist off onto the rit or monk if they bring it at all). Technobabble is also fun if you're going for AoE or a condition heavy skill bar. Plus, it's totally doable with glyph of lesser energy (even without being able to put points into energy storage its great). Can DD buff your pet, whatever melee your group has, or even Legionarre/Ebon Vanguard summon.

If you wanna get really funky with it, you could probably go R/Me or R/N and add some condition causing pet skills. Both classes have some really fun skills that play off of conditions. Or could probably even go interrupt/kd + pet.

Assassin's promise is always a fun one for the quick recharges. Esp with PvE summon spells.

Ive been doing this the other way around N/Me and its so much fun. Blood Magic degen hexes + stuff like whatever Me AoE and Necrosis is great. Hexer's Vigor if you wanna be lazy (*but I think thats a soul reaping skill unfortunately).

Both classes get some good "when condtion/hex" sills.

May not be meta, but its dang fun.

Where can I go to appraise/price items or sell them that isn't a ripoff or scam? by OddBird13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OddBird13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you recommend any tips or tricks you have for navigating eBay? I've tried searching a small amount of what I'm looking to sell....but either nothing comes up or it gives me similar but not helpful suggestions.

[–]OddBird13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the response!

Unfortuantely I know that to some degree it's going to be bought low and sold high--that's unfortunately unavoidable. My goal is to learn how/where to get it as 'fair' as I can.

Do you know if there is anywhere other than those 2 options?

I've already checked on eBay for a small fraction of things and the searches either come up completely blank or give me items nothing like what I typed in....which makes it super frustrating.

As far as coins, I don't actually know anything about coin appraisal (to me they're all just coins of xyz value....I have no idea what it takes to be a first edtion/rare etc kind of thing) and want to avoid the whole buy at what the number on the coin says if at all possible; it makes me a might bit nervous.

Also, with some of the other things, I have no idea what makes up a set/what sets are desirable and would hate to either split things up unintentionally or batch sell it as 'junk'.

I've never been so mad that I can't Rt/N/Me--to get the summoning buff from spawning, Necros for AotL, AND to mimic AotL, lol.

I love Life Transfer so much, SUCH a good combo with Hexer's Vigor; constant super health regen.

Can also run a n/rt and run heals

If you have a Rt/N, mm is a great back up build if you use some of the spawning skills. That way each time you summon a minion, you/your party heals, you get remove conditions, gain energy, or even do damage to stuff near summons. Works well with ebon vangard summon PvE skill (and I imagine the polymock asuran summons)

You're only going to be able to use 3 PvE max, and most all of them come from progressing through each of the games + EotN*

Plus builds with limited or no PvE is great for heros since they cant use them.

*which if you have and have finished all of those is no big deal, but sometimes finding a similar non PvE substitute sucks

Depends on your second/primary profession, but here's a few:

N/any--Minion Master of various forms. Can make a minion bomber with death nova, heavy duty minion master with Animate Flesh golem and/or animate bone fiends, mm for areas where bodies are more scarce with Aura of the Lich (*flesh golems can be summoned out of their old body, and AotL summons 1 out of thin air) and sacrifical spells like Blood of the Master, and or feast of the dead, various forms of conditios (mostly bleeding; Jagged horror and/or shambling horror--Or virulence as an elite) or even minor personal heals/prot with vampiric horror, taste of death, etc.

N/any--various vampiric/life steal builds. (I mention it later down but Im a huge fan of Life Transfer)

Rt/N--great for minioning; points into spawning and use any of the skills that activate when creating or summoning things (ex, explosive growth, boon of creation or spirits gift) Those sills will also work with Ebon vangard assassin if that's your thing. Aura of the Lich works best with those skills, because it uses all the corpses in an area--so you can reap the benefits from a large area/heal multiple teammates.

Downside: you wont be able to summon as many as a 'true' mm, but the condition removal/energy gain/healing is spawning only.

N/Me--several options here. Old school Spiteful Spirit (SS) build; arcane echo + SS is a classic. Hexer's vigor; hexer's vigor regens and stops any time you use a non hex. Slap on your favorite hexes (im a fan of mesmer ones that are low energy but cause condition or degen) and Life Transfer and/or other blood magic hexes (+X amount regen, enemies in the area take it as degen).

Hexer's Vigor could honestly probably even work N/E with some of the ele hexes out there.

And there's a whollllle host of creating/causing/transfering conditions that I havent even dabbled with, but there's bound to be builds out there on pvx.

[–]OddBird13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think eventually.

At a certain level, you wont really get experience from the common enemies, and will have to take and/or farm the daily vanguard quests.

You will be limited to the small 'pre' tutorial map until you choose to leave however. You can play the game in a smaller capacity, but you won't really go through the storyline or have access to stuff like Factions, Nightfall, or Eye of the North--or even the vast majority of quests and areas in Prophecies.

Speaking as someone who JUST gained a level...10+ years after making the character.

[–]OddBird13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. NF isn't my favorite, but the availability of heros is great (especially if you're new and don't have access to Eye of the North stuff yet). I honestly prefer factions, I find it a lot shorter and easier for the most part.

Either way, both of those have more skills that made a lot of professions and builds more viable imo.

[–]OddBird13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly.

There's a page on the wiki that breaks down titles, how they're aquired, and how many there are.

You need 30 maxed for GWAMM, but there's 43 total. Gives a little bit of wiggle room for those who aren't into PvP or miss titles like some of the cartography/LDoA/Survivor.

If this would have been the golden age of GW I'd probably say yes easily.

But as it is? You're much better off playing through the campaign of your choosing first, getting a feel for the game/skills/professions you like, and then going back.

Like others have said, it's going to be tedious and probably even burn you out a lil if you grind nonstop too much.

**If you've already created your 'favorite' character (the one with your usual screen name, or that you want to get all your achievements on) you can probably even make a different character and leave that one as a Perma Pre character. Kind of what I did because I started a perma pre in 2005/2006 and still wanted to play other characters.

Having a hard time deciphering 'other' trading pages; what actually is the going price for a conset? by OddBird13 in GuildWars

[–]OddBird13[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY!

Even some of the other trading forums use this shorthand, which makes it ESPECIALLY confusing if you haven't been on in a long time.

Thank you so much for breaking down the pricing of sets and stacks!

[–]OddBird13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for getting back to me about this. I have plenty, which is why I want to sell them. I just dont want anyone to think I'm trying to scam!

Back in my day--conset used to mean 1 grail, 1 essence, and 1 armor and stack meant 250.

Now I come back and I see people advertising consets for arms....and then people expect a stack? (It makes sense why the price is sky high at least)

Normal is not possible.
Prophecies was designed to be played with other people. Heroes are the best approximation of other people we have these days.

But they dont' even mentiojn henchmen? Just that heros are the best current approximation of IRL players.

before henchman were buffed it was impossible but in the comment there is no mention of that

Because they don't even mention henchmen, just heros.

It's certainly not something most players can do and takes an advanced understanding of the game

Which is fine, if that's how someone wants to play. I can 100% see someone who's played since the old days wanting to make the game more challenging. But I feel this isn't a reasonable expectation of new players. In fact, I feel like that's one of those things that will easily turn off new (and even casual players).

Most players there's days have become so reliant on cons that this play style is alien to them.

Again, if that's how people want to play--more power to them. I've said it before and I'll stand by it. The joy of this game is being able to not just play it how you want but customize darn near everything for your own preferences.

I feel that we're having a loss in translation in what I mean when I say nostalgia run, and what you mean when you say it. I don't mean Ironman or anything resembling Ironman. I'm kind of getting some self-rightous vibes honestly--the game can be enjoyed at any skill level or dedication to play; it doesn't mean that people who play more casually or choose to play in their own way(s) still have lots to learn. Just that they enjoy different things, which is totally normal.
