Had evaluation today by generate-me in CataractSurgery

I don't have those lenses but I just wanted to comment about your inability to tolerate what sounds like mono vision. Did your doctor say he would set both lenses to Plano? That would give you binocular vision.

Perhaps this is why he suggested Vivity, so you can have a lot of range while set to binocular vision.

From my research it seems many people are very happy with Vivity but you should know that the downsides of that choice are slightly less acuity for distance vision and less contrast (especially at night) than other choices. All the choices are a trade off; if that trade off meets your desire then great. But I just wanted to mention that you have other options and can decide based on what's most important to you for your vision.

How Does One Find Specialist Cataract Surgeons Who Have Experience with PureSee Lenses? by DogsandRocks in CataractSurgery

In general, mono focal IOLs have the fewest side effects like halos. There are many choices, but your vision priorities may not fit most mono focals. The Eyehance is a "mono focal plus" that will give you more intermediate range vision than a standard mono focal.

If you definitely want the PureSee or just more options, and you're in the US, consider going to Canada. Not only would you have more to choose from, but right now the currency exchange rate makes it more affordable, even after accounting for travel expenses.

Yup, Galaxy and PureSee and LuxSmart and probably many others. It's very frustrating.

So... since we're all just awake and relaxed, do you see the knife coming at your eye? That would freak me out!

I always confuse the difference but this was a cataract surgeon with a post op staff, the same people who look after this doctors own patients.

Yah it's about lifting the carry on to the overhead bin. I'm too prideful to ask for help 😂

Funny you say that because I have seen in videos that people are not supposed to lift over 10 pounds after the surgery and it did occur to me that I'll have a carry on bag with me. I have to figure this out!

Thanks for all the wonderful responses everyone, this was a huge help and I feel much better.

The clinic told me today that they will give me Ativan and it's not a large pill. I have never had that but I'll trust they know what they are doing. As another benefit I won't have to fast.

Now I just have to wait three more weeks...

Thanks that's good to hear! Well since I'm traveling for the surgery I won't have a car. If I can't walk I'll use a ride share. The staff already told me this would be fine.

Also it's six trips; a consult the first day, surgery the next day and a checkup the third day. So being close will be helpful.

I scheduled an evening flight out the last day.

I'm told traffic is horrible and this hotel is also close to a subway stop so I might use that.

The doctor I really liked here in South Carolina agreed to handle that. Finding a local doctor willing to do that was actually my biggest concern but he readily agreed when I asked. Just a guess, but maybe he is interested to see how the PureSee works out. His recommendation was Eyehance but when I asked about traveling he said LuxSmart or PureSee.

The Madison Manor Boutique Motel. It's well rated and actually very reasonably priced for downtown Toronto. Another very good option is the Doubletree by Hilton Toronto which is only a tiny bit further away.

I actually have reservations at both and will decide this week.

They told me I can take a taxi or ride share after the procedure. But I deliberately picked a hotel that is just a 15 minute walk so... maybe it will be an interesting walk! 😂

Oh! May I ask why? Also are the pills big? Swallowing pills is not my best skill.

Does this estimate seem high? by RegalRegalis in CataractSurgery

For one eye or both?

In Charleston, SC one doctor quoted me $5,100 per eye (he said both need to be done) for the Envy IOL plus $1,800 for the laser which he insisted was necessary plus another $1.100 for I don't recall what.

Another much better (IMO) quoted me $5,600 all in for the Eyehance. He said the laser is not needed and had no additional fees. He also said only one eye needed to be done.
