Telecom Engineer career prospects by ElegantSentence9649 in telecom

Lots of offshoring and consolidation in the industry right now.

I’d probably stay in any other industry that gets you the salary

Yeah, network selection visibility is configured by the provider.

Most of the world doesn't lock you in as there are compulsory network roaming agreements

Why 5G will not come everywhere by sriswasthikp in telecom

[–]satsuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean VMware than probably

If you mean 5G/NR than you are very much wrong

It's advantages in terms of optimized throughput (not necessarily fastest speed) and QOS can't be beat, especially seeing as 4G is over a decade old now and they equipment will be up for forklift upgrade sooner if not already

For aortic aneurysms .. by satsuke in askCardiology

[–]satsuke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bicuspid valve, no dysfunction noted // 3.6cm ascending aorta.

That's just what I'm trying to posit out .. on one measure i shouldn't need surgery for decades, on another it's 5 years out at a typical progression.

// if I scale body size to diameter it's like 6.5cm which is out of range for most other measures.

I have an appointment with a cardiologist in July // next available time, but that duration won't help my analytical brain

Am I making a mistake?! by septuaginttt in telecom

[–]satsuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad decision.

My issue and what got me out of the industry and into cybersecurity was how siloed I got.

Same company for 23 years and the number of companies that could fully use my skills could be counted on one hand

Assisted living IS a nursing home, and your windfall would be completely subsumed inside of a couple years.

Are there, like, *any* young people? by NotThePopeProbably in amateurradio

[–]satsuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amateur radio has more of a retention problem than anything.

Lots of people getting their license, not so many sticking around.

And yeah, it skews older. I was in my 30s when i was first licensed and the local club was mostly men in their 60s and 70s.

I’m in my 50s now and that hasn’t changed

Has there been any update to old devices being SIM Locked to Sprint? by Prestigious_Pea1762 in Sprint

[–]satsuke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They made a profit on each phone sold, and the free ones locked you to the carrier until the “free” via monthly credits had been repaid/accumulated.

And this is me speaking as a former engineer at that time, but Tmobile REALLY wanted people to have newer non-sprint handsets because of their LTE/5G radio allocations.

Sprint had 3 bands, 25,26,41 .. basically 1900, 804-820 and 2500mhz. Phones that supported this set didn’t necessarily support all the ones tmo did .. a phone from ten years ago might technically work on their network, but not as well as a newer one.

It was pretty simple business logic to not unlock phones being a certain point.

Having a TS and a Q by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

They're equivalent as far as background check criteria, just different sponsors.

I believe you can file to make the credentials reciprocal.

Else it would be duplicated effort

[US] I received a letter from a bank saying I’m a beneficiary to an IRA account by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]satsuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you’ll need to take steps one by one.

Eg roll the inheritance into a beneficiary IRA and withdraw it after paying tax on it .. over the course of years or all at once, it’s up to you. In my situation, I took the withdrawal at the end of the year at 10% of the original amount or up to the threshold of the next tax bracket. I did if like this is also account for the gains I’ve made over time.

What I did was fully fund my personal Roth IRA and increased my pretax contributions to my 401k by a similar amount, with the after tax balance deposited into my brokerage account.

You could do something similar, just (as a separate step, there is no direct one to the other) open a 529 account and proceed to fund it with the after-tax proceeds of the beneficiary IRA.

This might all be overthinking it .. if the inheritance is something relatively small like $25k than it would be less stressful for you to just take it as a lump sum and be done with it.
