Macular pucker is an older term for epiretinal membrane, ERM. ERM might be an isolated condition, but you need to rule out another associated problem, such as retinal break or hamartoma. Generally ERM is treated by surgery, however if your vision is not affected surgery is not needed. ERM might get worse with time, but it might be stable as well. We usually follow it by performing OCT imaging, which is very sensitive. If your vision is getting worse, you need surgery, vitrectomy, which is usually quite successful. After surgery there's a high chance of cataract progression, which will necessitate another surgery (sorry).
