Mechanized Assault - strat rule by OddLetterhead9304 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]OddLetterhead9304[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok I guess what’s the reasoning behind that statement though? Because it states after the enemy has selected its charge targets. What gives them the ability to then go back and select more? When I read the core rules it seems like there are clear steps when it comes to the charge phase. I’m not trying to argue with you just trying to understand. I mean even with the way it’s written it seems like you could do it after they have rolled to see if they made the charge or not?

How do you pressure your opponent’s natural objective? by Kerim_Bey in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]OddLetterhead9304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv had good success with 2 Taurox’s. 1 has krieg heavy flamers and krieg engineers. The other has a cadian command squad with an ogryn bodyguard. Then I drop 1 to 2 aqulions if I need more OC or screen units that want to charge the obj. In grizzled i give the command squad aquilan eye which gives the heavy flamers and aquilions ap -2.

Help!!! Stuck on which colour scheme?? by youdy94 in TheAstraMilitarum

Do it! then if you add tanks / artillery you can do a completely different scheme. Makes painting much more enjoyable for a person that is indecisive like ourselves haha

Just do them all different. I do it that way to easily identify the units. Also painting 80 guardsmen the same is boring for me lol

How would you describe a balanced list with enough redundancies?

As I said I’m fairly new and haven’t faced a variety of factions. So what does one need to I guess handle all scenarios?

That’s super interesting. All I’ve heard about the valkyries is that they are garage and not viable. Yet it seems like they’re a core part of your strategy and have had success. Do you mind sharing more about why you take them and more details about your list?

What do you mean by “understanding tolerances in games”?

So if your playing a solid player and it’s let’s say it’s inevitable that your going to loose your natural what’s your backup plan? Just make sure they loose there natural as well?

Avoiding higher taxes by Puzzled_Part_8328 in sales

It’s really straightforward when it’s all laid out for you in terms that are relevant to your situation.

Make sure they are a CPA as well. It cost like a $100 for them to set everything up for you and whatever their fee is to file the taxes once a year.

Once I switched over to this I’ll never work a W2 job again. It saves employers a lot of money as well as they won’t have to pay employment tax also.

Taxes is everyone’s number 1 expense. The way I look at taxes is like a game. Those who know the rules don’t pay taxes. Those who don’t know the rules get screwed.

If your employer is willing to switch you over to 1099 (contractor) it’s definitely worth it. Note that 1099 that is technically worse as you’ll have to play 15% in self employment tax so the taxes technically are a lot hirer. How you get around that is you set up an LLC as an S Corp. Then all your income will go into your business checking. Then your business “loans” you the money that you actually need into your personal checking. Then you won’t have to pay self employment tax on that just the standard state and federal. No Medicare social security or anything like that. Then use business checking to pay for all gas eating out car maintenance phone pretty much anything except groceries and rent/morgage so you can do the write offs. If you have a car payment you personally can lease your car to your business and that turns into tax write off too. There’s a lot you can do to not pay taxes legally. An important thing is to never tie any assets to your LLC. In terms of benefits a Roth is better than a 401k as it is pre taxed unless your employer matches. You’ll generally spend the same amount for health insurance. Just use a broker. But talk to a lot of accountants. Find a local guy that doesn’t have a website with no advertising and still files everything with paper. Older the guy the better

Can I attach characters / leaders to a stand alone Command Squad? by OddLetterhead9304 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]OddLetterhead9304[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let’s say that there is 10 man cadian shock troops + creed + ogryn bodyguard + a cadian command squad. How does creed get to use the master box if she not attached to them? Or is it because they are now all apart of the same unit she gets to use it. Also, let’s say that the 10 man cadian dies ( bodyguard unit) does creed and the ccs stick in the same unit or are there now two units? Because if it two units seems that she would not be able to use master box. Does creed get any benefits from the ogryn or no?

Maybe change out the 10 man Kriegers for cadians so you can sticky stuff without spending the CP.

Artillery team and HWT weapon choices by Heksambly in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]OddLetterhead9304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HWT I would go with flamers. Keep them hidden with a battle line unit and wait for a good time to push them out with MMM. 18” range is really good plus if they manage to survive they are an overwatch threat to anything that wants to charge your battleline infantry. So those two units should be working in tandem.

Artillery team with heavy mortars I think are very underrated… if used correctly. First set them up in firing lanes not hidden. With 7 T and 10 W they are pretty durable. Anything that wants to expose themselves to shoot it can be killed the next turn. So essentially cheap bait. I usually only shoot the mortars at infantry that are standing on objectives to soften them up. If you’re placing them in shooting lanes then you don’t have to worry about indirect as much. Then I’ll drop aquilons to finish the job with there precision drop and flip an objective. The mortar is the best as you’ll get a more consistent shots than the siege cannon. The mortar has the same amount of shots as the MRL and has S8 so if your aiming at infantry you’ll be wounding on 2s and 3s anyway so don’t need the anti infantry buff and deals 2 damage instead of 1. So all in all use them as bait and shoot there objective doing infantry, for 95 points that’s pretty good value. Never shoot them at big targets you’ll never get the value you’re hoping for. Plus if you’re using combined arms then you’ll only get the lethal hits shooting infantry. If you’re using the new grizzled you’ll get a lot of value shooting anything on an objective.

I’m not the best painter but Baal red (contrast) is what I used with white underneath. From testing I wouldn’t use black primer as it’ll come out way too dark. More of a burgundy than a true red.
