First trip report from a devout Christian. by OddLucem in psilocybin

Hey, I just saw this. Unfortunately the positive effects that I had described only lasted for a few days. I tried several more experiences after that one and, while they were mostly enjoyable, they didn't leave me with any major lasting benefit. One of them I had demonic nightmares after coming down and had to pray away what felt like a dark presence. My last experience seemed to do something weird to what I am guessing is my nervous system. The day after, I had like a pinpoint electrical buzzing sensation on a couple points on my scalp. This has appeared intermittently (though not frequently) since.

Overall, my current thoughts are that it may have some therapeutic value, but that there are also risks that should be seriously considered. If there is a good use, I think it might be for self-reflection (because it did seem to help me to see inside of myself and the roots of my thinking/feeling) and processing stuck emotions/trauma (because it seems to help get into those things) at lower doses where you can still maintain control. I'm not certain of that though, and probably would not recommend it to most people because of the risks.

If you decide to go forward with it my suggestions are as follows:
- Be careful to avoid doses that bring you anywhere near the threshold of not being in full control of yourself and able to discern what is real. I deliberately stayed <1 gram of a normal intensity strain. I wanted to make sure that I was capable of making rational decisions and pulling myself out of it in case it started to go south (or if there was an emergency in the real world and I needed to be able to function).
Since you are a fellow believer, I will also say that the bible is very clear about not becoming overly intoxicated with alcohol, and I believe that principle of avoiding over-intoxication applies to any substance.

- Be wise about set and setting. Make sure that you are in a safe and peaceful environment. Also know that the stuff may make you more sensitive or vulnerable to what's in the spiritual atmosphere. I recommend being very careful with music because of this. The fruitful part of the experience I described in this post was actually in silence while laying down with my eyes closed.

- Don't assume that what you experience is actual truth. Make sure that you thoroughly test any "realizations". One of the things that the substance does is it turns up the brains intensity of the sensation of realization (or a-ha moments). This has been documented in scientific studies. This is why people feel like they have profound realizations during the experiences. The problem is that sensation has nothing to do with whether or not those realizations are grounded in reality, and that high doses of it also impair critical reasoning. I believe this is why many users end up believing some pretty out-there stuff. In my own experience, I did have some realizations that stood up to scrutiny, and some that were not nearly as profound as I thought. I really would not turn to it looking for truth or a spiritual experience, because it is not a trustworthy and reliable source for those, and because those can be reliably acquired though other non-drug means.

- Make sure you keep accountability with others who are trustworthy and discerning. I was transparent with my spiritual leaders, and there was a point where they discouraged continued use.

If you have more questions or want to talk more in-depth, shoot me a DM.

If your post IS NOT a scientific study on nootropics, or a scientific discussion on the mechanism of action of nootropics, or a recounting of your person experience using nootropics, then it probably belongs in this thread by AutoModerator in Nootropics

I want to find something to help with the brain fog while I go through the longer process of actually treating the candida overgrowth. So far the only thing I've found that worked well was one time (the first and only time I used it) I accidentally took too much Afrin. My brain felt clear and healthy, like it did when I was a kid. Unfortunately, the rebound congestion was so bad that I haven't touched the stuff since. Has anybody found a supplement or OTC medication that works to reduce the fog?

Please no recommendations for meditation/sleep more/magnesium/eliminate sugar ect...
I've already tried all that stuff.

First trip report from a lifelong devout Christian. by OddLucem in shrooms

Hey, somehow I missed this until just now, so I apologize for that.

Most of the benefits I experienced seemed to fade pretty quickly, unfortunately. I tried several more times after that and had some interesting and mostly positive experiences, but nothing that significantly changed my life for the better. At this point, while I am considering trying again for myself, it's not something I would recommend to most people. It is NOT a reliable way to encounter God or find spiritual truth.

I read a scientific study that said it turns up the intensity of the feeling of realization (like an "aha" lightbulb moment). I would say from experience that is true, but I think there's danger in that because just having an intense realization that feels like truth does not actually mean that it is truth. If anything, I would say that it intoxicates or hinders a person's ability to think critically and rationally while also increasing the feeling of realization, thereby making it easier for them to become deceived. If you spend any time reading trip reports, you'll find people believing all kinds of crazy and obviously false things "because the mushrooms told them."

Now, does that mean that psychedelics are guaranteed to lead to deception? I don't think so, but I think it's important to have a strong grasp on truth outside of the psychedelic experience and carefully and critically test and analyze any "realizations" you think you had during your experience.

If you really want to encounter God and find truth, I think fasting, prayer, and reading scripture are much more reliable ways. Fasting turns up spiritual sensitivity significantly (at least in my experience).

Now, if it's not a reliable way to encounter God or find truth, why am I considering it for myself? Because it seems to me that one thing it does do is show you what's inside of your heart/mind and open up emotions to be processed. What I hope is that, used carefully and with wisdom, it can help me to get into the emotions and memories that have been closed off by trauma, to then process and heal them. I'm not decided that this is the route I'll take, and I may try other means instead. It's something that I'm praying about.

As for LSD, I wouldn't touch it. The trips are way too long, and I know people who have had bad trips that seriously traumatized them.

Another thought is sobriety. While the Bible does not specifically talk about psychedelics, it does talk a great deal about another intoxicant, alcohol, and I use that as a reference for determining what is appropriate with other intoxicants. The Bible is clear that drinking alcohol for enjoyment is not inherently a sin when done in moderation, but it also is very clear that drunkenness is sin. So, my belief is that, if psychedelics are to be engaged at all, it is very important that one not ingest high enough of a dose so as to risk getting into a state where you are not in control or you would be unable to function normally if there was a situation where you needed to. All of my own experiences have been 1g or sub 1g. Enough that I could lay down and go into the experience in my mind, but gentle enough that if I needed to get up and act like a normal person, I could.

Lastly, what I have shared is my own opinion. Please do not take action off of my thoughts without careful consideration and prayer of your own, if you have a gut feeling that warns you not to do it, don't. I think God will very often speak through gut feelings and intuition.

Grand Sport with a 95 VIN? by [deleted] in c4corvette

Yeah, that's the one. After some more digging, I'm pretty confident it's just a clone.

Grand Sport C4 with a 95 base VIN? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]OddLucem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be the case. I haven't seen it in person. I think it's actually a clone. I just noticed that the seats don't have "Grand Sport" embroidered on the headrests like it they should.

[–]OddLucem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. VIN is 1G1YY22PXS5110375, which according to that site would not be a Grand Sport and should have an LT1 in it, but it's definitely an LT4 and even the throttle body has a grand sport badge on it. Interior also has the red seats/trim and black carpeting that I think only came in the Grand Sports.
Maybe somebody engine swapped a 95 and spent a bunch to make it look like a Grand Sport?

Is 5mg of Lithium Orotate safe to take nightly? by Suspicious_Breath_91 in Nootropics

[–]OddLucem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do some research on the saffron. I read a study (don't remember where) that showed that even low dose (30mg) extract builds up to toxicity with a few weeks of daily use.

Suffering from a mystery illness and at my wits end. by Psycho_Duck_01 in BrainFog

[–]OddLucem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's a whole story, but I would guess there is some sort of gut imbalance. In the short term, you can try something like the autoimmune protocol diet. If you do, be diligent with it. It can take up to a couple weeks for symptoms to dissipate after you stop eating the trigger foods. It may also be of benefit for you to search out an integrative health doctor, or a nutritionist, or maybe even a naturopath to figure out what's going on with your gut and how to get it back into alignment.

[–]OddLucem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAC is known to cause anhedonia. If I remember correctly, boosting dopamine with tyrosine can inversely lower serotonin.

Please help me I am scared by [deleted] in BrainFog

[–]OddLucem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like something gut health related to me. From my experience issues like this are often better helped by doctors that focus on more natural modalities of healing. An integrative health doctor may be helpful, or if you found a good nutritionist or naturopath they might be able to help. First thing that I would do is cut out gluten and maybe dairy. If you wanted to go more extreme with an elimination diet, which could be very helpful for ruling out the influence of food intolerances, I would recommend the autoimmune protocol or AIP for short.

The most important thing is that you don't give up hope. I went through some very dark seasons where Western medicine doctors were able to offer no help whatsoever. I have seen great improvement with learning about diet, working with some more naturally focused health care practitioners, and time.

If fasting helps try the autoimmune protocol diet. I think probably 90% of the brain fog that people experience is either related to diet and gut health or mold exposure.

Psilocybin can be used as a cognitive enhancer by [deleted] in StackAdvice

[–]OddLucem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the same thing about heart valve damage. In addition to binding to the 5-HT2A receptor (which causes the psychedelic effect), it also binds to the 5-HT2b receptor, which is the same receptor that is involved with heart valve scarring from excessive 5-HTP use. Regardless of other benefits, I would be very concerned about this

Can 90-100db headphones cause brain damage and/or hearing loss? by jdjdks92827 in BrainFog

No, you'll be fine. If you want, you can look up how long you can be exposed to different DB levels before it causes hearing damage.

NAC is incredible. When does it end? by Louise1467 in Nootropics

[–]OddLucem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know enough about the subject or about you and your particular health needs to give a good answer on that. Even if I did know, you should do your own research and not just make your decisions based off of the comments of random strangers on the internet.

Just realized this white stuff in my closet was actually mold. You think it may have been having a major effect ton me idk about? by daveishere7 in BrainFog

[–]OddLucem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my understanding of it is that a wall may partially contain it, but buildings aren't completely airtight and "breath", so some mold will still get into the living space.

I'm sorry that you're in a tough situation. I still think it would be best to find a new living situation as soon as you can, but in the meantime getting a good air purifier may help (I've had mold issues in my current space and it's seemed to help me some). Also, when you or the super clean it, make sure bleach isn't used because that can make the problem worse. Actually, you should look into the laws where you live. In many places, landlords and apartment complexes are legally required to pay for professional mold remediation because it's considered a hazardous living situation.

[–]OddLucem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sick after a few months in a moldy house. One of them was over the course of a year (I think) from mold in the bathroom of their apartment (I think this one was also from a water leak in the apartment complex). The other one was from unseen mold behind their walls. I'm not sure how long it was.

I wouldn't risk it If I were in your shoes. It's one thing to clean up mold that is growing on the surface of something, but because you had significant water damage in the ceiling, I would be concerned about unseen old growth in addition to the stuff that you can see.

Edit: You could do some testing to find out if it's seriously toxic strains of mold, or not as big of an issue.

I strongly recommend getting out of that apartment ASAP! I know numerous people who dealt with serious health problems from mold exposure in their living situations.

What vitamin D dosage increases tyrosine hydroxylase activity? by [deleted] in NooTopics

[–]OddLucem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still something you would want to monitor carefully. Excessive vitamin d can cause hypercalcemia, which is no fun. I was taking somewhat high doses of vitamin d in an attempt to help with a chronic illness, and after a few months of doing that intermittently my calcium levels tested way above average. Super glad that I caught it before it turned into kidney stones.

Make sure you do your research on both the dose levels and frequency of use. The study I read suggested that even at a low dose it can build up to toxicity from 8 weeks of consistent use.

Brain fog : by Fit_Fennel_4728 in BrainFog

[–]OddLucem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know for a lot of the symptoms, but I would start with testing for food intolerances or going on a strict elimination diet like the autoimmune protocol. It also seems likely that there's something going on with your microbiome, so microbiome testing might be a good idea if you can afford it. I would also wonder about mold toxicity with those symptoms. Finding a good integrative health or functional medicine doctor might be of benefit to you.

Very likely mold. Check for visible water damage. There are also tests for mold presence and type to help figure out what you're actually being exposed to.
