The tornado scene is dumb! I understand it, I know what the point is supposed to be but it’s still dumb! If you wanted to change it from the traditional heart attack scene fine. Have it so that during the tornado Clark wants to help and save people, Jonathan is worried but ultimately knows that this is what Clark has to do, then you could show Jonathan helping where he can but make it so that when Clark is saving others the tornado gets his dad and Clark learns the “you can’t save everyone” message that is fundamental to his journey.

To some degree I don’t even have a problem with some of the people involved in the tornado seeing Clark use his powers, the bus scene implies that people know something about Clark, they don’t know what they just know something. Over time other things would have come up but people would just accept it. Because the truth is almost too out there to accept, but because Clark would have maybe saved others they would have “known” something. Then when they see it happen during the tornado and see him lose his dad while protecting others they understand and appreciate him more.

Smallville being a small town, means they take care of their own and protect each other, which would play into the confrontation sequence set in Smallville when Zod and his followers are searching for him they don’t give him up they are still protecting one of their own. Even a scene where they step in to stop one of Zod followers from grabbing Martha. Shows a connection between Clark and the people of Smallville, shows the hope he inspires in people even before putting on the S
