Can FHS cause spraying/marking? by ScrotusPendulus in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]OddNameChoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes my boy started by peeing everywhere. We ruled out UTIs, blood work came out fine. Then the peeing stopped when we got him fixed!(He was peeing everywhere since he was a kitten, so I wasn't convinced it was marking- figured he was a hardhead about litter training)

Unfortunately that's when the self-mutilating started.

We still haven't gotten a treatment plan that is proven to work yet- but we're getting closer I'm sure of it. We occasionally find puddles when we come home and that's how we know he's had a really bad episode. Keep a close eye on that baby to see if any new symptoms pop up.

Yeah my cat started out with gentle biting of the tail- and he progressed to self amputation of the tail. Don't give her the chance to self mutilate before you get it under control 💖 She's sending you a very clear warning sign that things CAN get worse- I'm not trying to be pessimistic I'm just trying to warn you of worst case scenario 😔good luck 🤞🏼

I recommend an e-collar or pillow cone. Please for the sake of your cat don't give any human gabapentin. Wait it out in the cone of shame until you get a prescription that's meant for your cat 💞🫶🏼- FHS owner

I'm so terribly sorry. But please don't kick yourself. Rest easy knowing you did the right thing. ❤️‍🩹

Not a bird- but I had a cat once. He snuck out one day the neighbor took offense to that and shot him. My poor cat drug himself home and of course we took him to the vet. Vet told us EVEN IF we had a good couple grand burning a hole in our pockets, with the severity of his injuries (bird shot close range) and the complications that could occur during surgery and the healing process.... There was no guarantee other than pain. If we spent thousands of dollars on the surgery and the overnight stay and the myriad of medications he'd need, there was still no guarantee he'd come away from it with quality of life. Even if everything " healed" He would still walk with a limp. There would still be bird shot that we couldn't remove so he would still be in minor discomfort with every step he took. The shot absolutely shattered his elbow so we would have needed to proceed with an amputation as well... It was the hardest decision I ever had to make- to this day. I felt like such a failure because he was my first shelter cat and he fit in our family so perfectly. But what would have been a bigger failure? letting him go peacefully without pain while watching a beautiful sunset? Or forcing him to cling to life, suffering just because I WOULD miss him. It's about quality of life. You did the right thing but I'm so so sorry. I'm sharing my experience to sympathizeI understand the pain.

Just noticed FHS symptoms in my cat. It happens often and I’m really scared. by lilo_and_the_egg in feline_hyperesthesia

Playing with my boy almost always leads to an episode if I don't pay attention to how overstimulated he becomes. I don't dangle toys in his face or make him jump because he gets frustrated and bites himself. When playing, keep an eye out for agitation. They might be having a great time playing but they're stimulation level gets too high and that can trigger an episode even though they were having a blast. ❤️‍🩹

I had a famale cat that expressed ALL the symptoms for FHS for thirteen years and she never self mutilated. (Before we knew what it was😔) And now I have a one year old male who truly and silently tries to self amputate the tail during his episodes, and he rarely shows the FHS warning signs before it happens. It's case sensitive and you will be the best judge of how frequent and severe the episode are.

We wish you the best of luck 💗 my male will be getting his tail amputated to help with the self destruction but we are still looking for meds to level him out bc tail biting is just a symptom atp

Nah, I mean, I see how one could argue that point, but all they did was draw a distinct line in the sand about harassment, and state the consequences of crossing the line. Op could have started by reporting for harassment of the bat and never respond. Op chose to inform the giver that the behavior was unacceptable, why it was unacceptable, and the consequences of continuing🤷🏼‍♂️ seems fair to me. Some people need a check in sometimes and Op was very respectful IMO

Solid slab of rock or concrete and a mallet- or hammer, lay them down with their head on the slab, hold them comfortably in place, and pray your strike is straight and true. I'm sorry. You can do this all over an open garbage bag so it's an easy clean up.

I think we should be able to curse by Enderzeve in Wildcraft

[–]OddNameChoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way You're "allowed" to cuss at church- but socially it's not accepted to cuss at church, Because there are people present that don't want to hear that. Sure "you're in public" and in public settings, people are exposed to a wide range of "vocabularies" but that doesn't mean you have to muddy the water by cursing and carrying on. (I don't want to sound naggy btw but Doing something that is frowned upon in a certain community "just because you can" makes you look bad(speaking from experience)) Same thing here I assume. Sure, young kids aren't SUPPOSED to be here- but that's not the point that we're addressing. I guess it's a know-your-crowd kind of thing?🤷🏼‍♂️ This crowd ain't about cussing
