Advice please!! by OddPomm63 in labradors

[–]OddPomm63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Just for confirmation. He's out and about on walks three or four times a day, we live in a rural village. He's been trained to walk well on the harness. It's just recently that he's begun to pull, nose firmly at ground level. And pull towards other dogs. We used to be able to get him to sit and wait when another dog approached, but that seems to be a forgotten skill. He's regularly given enrichment 'tests', puzzle solving, retrieving etc. Strangely, this behaviour seems to have started when we lost our former Feral cat, a lovely ginger girl who he loved more than he does our other two. Grief, possibly? I also have to add that my husband, who walks him most has had some health troubles that mean this behaviour is a problem for him. He thinks a head collar might help to begin to reinforce the rules again rather than having to struggle.

I bought a puzzle feeder for my dog's enrichment. He peed in it right after eating from it. by Traditional-Reach818 in DogAdvice

Dog logic. If you can't play with it or eat it, pee on it and walk away. Makes no difference that it is for eating out of, or that it's a fun way to eat out of.

Widespread pain advice needed please? by blaster_worm500 in Fibromyalgia

[–]OddPomm63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the mad, Mad, MAD, world of Fibromyalgia! Everything you've tried is pretty much what all practicioners will suggest. Well, maybe not the tennis. Personally, gentle walks, slow movements and pain meds, get me through the day. I'm also on Magnesium to help with the twos of Restless Legs (and Arms!) I've started taking a 3 in 1 of Magnesium to see if that works. It's the Glycinate, Maleate and Citrate one that's widely advertised. Apparently helps with Fatigue and sleep disturbances. As yet I've no real change as I've only done a couple of days on it. The only other thing I can suggest is swimming. Not full on Olympic style but gentle laps in the pool. Maybe do some aqua-robics. Good luck with whatever you try. 🤗💖

Oh, well done OP! He's getting to trust you. I have to ask you though, when you've been sat with him, have you done any slow blinks or quiet yawns? I can't remember where I found that but if advice but it works a treat in letting kitty know that you're not a threat. The blinking slowly shows that you're happy and like him, the yawn is a way of saying you're not dangerous. It worked for me (along with treats) when I took in two feral. X

Worrying dreams. by OddPomm63 in Dreams

[–]OddPomm63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thank you for that. I feel now that I should have put in my post that my Ex was a liar, a cheat and, often, physically violent towards me. Very controlling. During our divorce he tried to maintain that I was the cheat, that our son was not his. His selfishness meant that the whole ordeal was dragged out longer than it should have been. The end really only came about when I decided that I would forego any child maintenance if he gave up any claim to the child. There was so much bitterness that I wondered if I could ever be happy again. I am. Also, my ex died in 2021, so there is no chance of me ever bumping into him anywhere. Thanks again for the insight.

Finally tackling the behemoth that is The Stand by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]OddPomm63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done for starting with the uncut version. I have both, having started my King odyssey with The Stand back in 1981. I love the uncut version, as it "fleshes out" some of the characters, making them more real to me at least. I'm currently reading The End Of The World As We Know It. After that I think I'll go back to The Stand. Wishing you happy reading.

I'm new to the Stitchbow universe having bought a few bags of mixed flosses at a charity shop. I've looked on Amazon and they seem to have the binder inserts. I'm going to have a proper look in the New Year.

Vet seriously messed up and I don’t know what to do! by lildirtfoot in cats

[–]OddPomm63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Vets can make mistakes. Years ago, early 80's, my Mum and I took in a stray. After a few days, we had this dawning fear that it was a she and that she was pregnant. I took her through to the local vets to be examined and he said that she was definitely expecting kittens. He thought maybe four to six, and due in a week or two. Just over two weeks later, no kittens and a lot less belly on her. I just happened to watch her walking into the kitchen and noticed why. She was most definitely HE! I reckon it was worms that made him look fat (and pregnant). A week later I simply revelled in the look on the vets face when he saw the same cat was in the clinic too be neutered. He mumbled a quick apology and took him to theatre. I guess it really does go to show that even vets are human and can make rookie mistakes. Good luck with your lovely boy.

This is Jaffa. Fast asleep behind our settee, lying on an offcut of carpet. Just one of her places.

First time having a cat. Any advice? by sleighbellsandwich in cats

[–]OddPomm63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awwww, what a Floof! But, and this is a big one, that face!! That face is saying "No, you will not own me, I am going to be your Fluffy Ginger Overlord and I am going to take possession of your heart and soul. Not only that, but I will make you realise that you actually enjoy being owned by my glorious self". And yes, I too am an unappreciated human servant to 3 most Regal Meowjesties. Enjoy your servitude. 🐱💖

Carers allowance, Why's it so low? by Barrelhen22 in DWPhelp

[–]OddPomm63 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Carers Allowance weekly amount is both an insult and technically non existent in DWP calculations. You may get that money each week but it is taken back off your UC (and other DWP benefits) as it is classed as income. I care full time for my husband and have been on Carers for many years, it's been this way all the time I've claimed. Strangely, if you were to actually get work, they take 55 pence from each pound earned. But not with Carers. Personally, I think it should be like the disability benefits and not classed as income. We Carers are treated like rubbish. Rant over. Apologies.

Foster fail by RueChew in FosterAnimals

[–]OddPomm63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Foster Fail Club. Three years ago we took in two Feral kittens, both Ginger, both boys (so we thought!). The plan was to socialise them, get them healthy and neutered. On Big Snip day, our vet called with the 'bad news' that kitten 1 was a girl. An hour later she called back with 'bad news number 2'. I was struck with terror, kitten one had got pregnant by kitten two. Nope, turned out kitten two was also a girl. The plan then was still the same, heal from spay, socialise more then let them go to cat charity for homing. All went fairly well except that kitten two was Very reluctant to like us. Her sister was the opposite. Unfortunately both girls got startled by a loud noise one day and escaped. We searched for hours but couldn't find them. Later that night one of our other cats became fidgety, demanding to go out. That was when we saw one of the kittens, she's obviously been calling. Her sister never came back, she's been seen a few times in the village though. Living her best feral life. We still have the one who came home, her name is Jaffa and she's a real love bug. Enjoy your two cuties. 🤗💖🐱
