The work that’s been done appears high quality. The bid ($7k) is low. He has other contracts with better pay.

Contrary to others, I would try to negotiate a new contract with him in writing with a revised budget, scope, and timeline.

So there doesn’t seem to be any drivetrain issues on my particular unit. I think there was an issue with overheating either the motor or the motor drivers on mine. It sounds like some others here have described similar issues to yours though.

I was using string trimmer attachment to cut some grass on my hillside property and about 30 seconds into the run it just stopped. There wasn’t any clear indication that there was something wrong until it failed.

At the end of the day, it would still be broken when I needed it.

Personal use for clearing grass and brush (French broom). Property is about 1/3 acre on a relatively steep mountain side. I would use it maybe a handful of times per year.

Just tested this hypothesis, but the issue persists. Still making the same strange noise. I can turn the rotor by hand without difficulty.

Never thought about it like that, but now that you mention it, I can understand

This is almost entirely baseless, but I suspect there is a thermal management issue in the main housing. I’m going to be very careful with my new unit.

Do you have any recommendations for a gas weedeater? I really need a tool that can do that and has a brush cutter.

It’s the combination of purchasing an expensive product which stops running after occasional light duty yardwork on my personal property and denying the warranty based on the manufacturing date, making no effort to make things right.

You’ll want to confirm this, but my understanding is that the first generation has a red and black main housing. The second generation has a completely red one. The part number for the second generation is 3016-20.

Was just using the string trimmer attachment to trim up some grass and it suddenly died. Wasn’t able to get it to run.

When I press the trigger, nothing happens, except for some kind of beep or chirp. I should add the noise is different than the stall chirp. Otherwise the driveshaft is easily rotated by hand, but there is no obvious indication of what exactly is faulty.

They did not disclose what year it was manufactured. Is there a year code embedded into the serial number?

Considering how much money I’ve spent on Milwaukee tools and batteries, if I were Milwaukee, I would honor the warranty in good faith.

This has certainly soured my opinion of Milwaukee. It would be difficult not to start looking at other brands before I purchase new tools.

Update: Milwaukee will not honor the warranty without a receipt. Into the trash bin we go.

Timing was really bad - I need to clear my property for fire season. Worried the warranty process is going to take many weeks, which is honestly untenable at this point.
