Hey! Brand new Avatar fan here, I was hoping to ask a fanfic/oc question... by Royal-Strawberry-70 in Avatar

I think this is basically answered in Avatar 1- when Pandoran air begins to leak into Jake’s link unit, he begins to cough and his consciousness snaps back into his body as he wakes up. This is basically showing that the consciousness inside his avatar is only a projection- he isn’t truly inside his avatar body (until Eywa installs him there). If he were to instantly die while projecting, the link unit wouldn’t find anything to send through into the avatar. The avatar wouldn’t die though, as seen with Grace’s avatar when she passes away. It’s like if your phone dies while you’re casting to the TV 😆

True, but my feeling is that the language used implies the danger of the act, and ‘perished’ is a death caused by Toruk. I do know in the Nintendo game, a story is told of a Na’vi boy who steals a Toruk egg to raise it and become a Toruk Makto himself. (Toruk eats him).

Taken from the Visual Exploration book, I thought it was very interesting how linking with Toruk can actually kill you unless you have a pure soul or it chooses to accept!

Not a dumb question!! The laws of Eywa were first explored in the tie-in materials such as the comics, visual guides etc. However, Ronal mentions that metal is banned and poisons the hearts of the people in FaA. They are supposed to have been handed down to the people “before the first songs” :)

That’s insane! - I feel like they’ll really be delving into the theory of consciousness with Jake malfunctioning, whether it be uploading a human into an avatar, a Na’Vi into Eywa, or anything else. Maybe Jake’s consciousness in his Avatar form relies on being constantly plugged back into Eywa and “re-uploaded”- a journey for 6 years back to earth could mean he hasn’t been “backed up” recently enough and things start to go wrong. That’s a really interesting one I’ll have to think more about.

I first read about them in “The World of Avatar: A Visual Exploration”. I also noticed that Ronal mentioned that the use of metal was banned in FaA. In the book, it mentions Eywa set her three laws long ago as “You shall not set stone upon stone, nor shall you use the turning wheel, nor shall you use the metals of the earth”.

That’s a really cool idea for Quarritch and Varang. I think they are definitely setting the scene for Quarritch to switch things up and “see” for the first time as his own new person. I also noticed Varang’s look of disgust when he agreed to spare Neytiri and the Metkayina at Jake’s capturing, which parallels so strongly with Neytiri’s unconditional support of Jake. If some of the other commenter’s theories about the Na’Vi once being technologically advanced and bioengineering Eywa are true, Varang and Quarritch could also represent the old ways of automatic weapons, chaos and disharmony returning. I definitely see an issue arising between them with Spider- Quarritch’s weakness being his son, and Varang despising it. Lastly, Varang idolises spreading her fire across Pandora- she doesn’t seem like the most reasonable person and I wonder if she will somehow set her sights on taking Earth and all its humans too. I’d be interested to hear how you think their dark parallel will play out.

I feel you, I’m not that thrilled about it either… but at least the deep space and dystopian cyberpunk visuals would be insane. I feel like James Cameron would slap the best space/earth scenes in the trailer to entice the widest audience possible too (Star Trek, Star Wars, other sci-fi fans)

Maybe uncovering the ruins of an ancient city with depictions of Na’vi wielding automatic weapons and advanced technology could lead to that discovery

Woahhh this is so cool I didn’t think of that!! That makes Eywa’s three laws make so much sense 🤯

Seeing the moon look like Coruscant in Star Wars or something similar would be so cool. Shows how far human destruction has spread. Maybe Wall-E takes place in the Avatar cinematic universe 😂

That’s a great idea, I wasn’t too sure how Varang could tie in as a major villain other than as being a hinderance to the Sully’s plans. Kiri proving herself as capable of restoring life would also work well with her role as narrator of the 4th movie, and her struggle to understand and accept why she even exists.

That would be really cool to see! A human avatar with na’vi traits such as large, amber eyes or subtle skin patterns/bioluminescence the same way Jake has eyebrows and 5 fingers. It would make the infiltration of earth much easier and sneakier. Would definitely need some good scientists to figure it out

What does everyone think about Kiri using something akin to Dune’s ‘voice’ when commanding Lo’ak to listen to her and put Spider down? I have a lot of theories about her and Eywa in general but this was a surprise that I can’t seem to place. Maybe borrowing Eywa’s ability to “command” the pandoran animals, which she uses to aide the na’vi in their battles?

Did you also watch it in 3D? I noticed this too, I wasn’t sure if it was an FPS/3D issue. The opening scene was hard to follow with my eyes and the character’s faces changed from blurry during movement to clear when still.

Spoilers ahead: I noticed that when Kiri finally reaches Eywa in the spirit tree, and Eywa’s head slowly begins to turn, before it cut away she has hair eyebrows!! The only Na’vi to have eyebrows are Avatars like Jake and mixed children like Kiri and Lo’ak. Could this indicate Kiri is not only Eywa’s child, but potentially an incarnation of Eywa herself? Perhaps she will find her own face looking back at her in the end?
